So the index is out and the new space marines codex. I noticed wolf priest data sheets are not in the codex and the space marines book doesn’t say anything about space wolves not being able to take a chaplain. Are we supposed to disregard the wolf priest data sheet from saga of the beats and just take a chaplain ? Also, what about the space wolves litanies and the space wolves labrarian powers ? Are we being lumped in to the stuff from the space marine codex and if not can we take from either tree ?

I think saga of the best is out.
We will probably get more in the codex suplement when it comes. Blood angels lost their psykick disiplin.

The only thing that would make me think wolf priests are still a thing is it says you can’t take an apothecary so ... how else would you heal other than taking a priest ?

They are almost certainly removing the ability of the Priest to heal in the new supplement. Niiai wrote:I think saga of the best is out. We will probably get more in the codex suplement when it comes. Blood angels lost their psykick disiplin.
You can't use Saga of the Beast rules anymore or SW codex rules anymore, as per the SW index. "Similarly, if a Space Wolves rule from Psychic Awakening: Saga of the Beast does not feature within this document, it cannot be used." Space Wolves simply cannot take Wolf Priests in any capacity right now. (A Chaplain cosplaying as a Wolf Priest is not the same thing.)

While I agree with you - the Codex doesn't. "If this unit is from the Space Wolves Chapter (or one of its successor Chapters), it has the Wolf Priest keyword."
I also note with some concern that while Ulrik is still available in the Index, and has that same Wolf Priest keyword... he doesn't get any Apothecary-style abilities.

OK. What does this help? Does it unlock anything? Can we use Combat Revival (1 CP): Your APOTHECARY can automatically resurrect a single model in a <CHAPTER> CORE or <CHAPTER> BIKER unit at full wounds.?

As I said before, a Chaplain cosplaying as a Wolf Priest is not a Wolf Priest. "Wolf Priests" as well as Ulrik lost their Healing Balms rule (as they were, fluffwise, a mix of Chaplain and Apothecary). It might have the Wolf Priest keyword, but it is not a Wolf Priest in essence. Nor does the rule granting it that keyword change the unit or model name to Wolf Priest. It's just a (Primaris) Chaplain with the WOLF PRIEST keyword.

Keywords have no inherent meaning. They act simply as anchors for other rules to reference. A Chaplain with the WOLF PRIEST keyword doesn't have the APOTHECARY keyword.

The WOLF PRIEST keyword will probably mean something once the new Space Wolves supplement drops.

Right well ... Ulrik the slayer is in the index. As far as the keyword ... I just think like one of the other user said it will mean somthing in the supplement right now I think they took away the chapter specific litanies because they were so similar anyway in saga of the beast except for the one special one Automatically Appended Next Post: It’s the same thing with lieutenant data sheets it says “if it’s space wolves give it the battle leader keyword” this way they are not expemt from the rule for “no more than to leutanants per detachment” as well

SW codex will be released next month.
Yes, it does suck to be just SM painted in light blue but it will soon be fixed with the full set of rules for the army.

I would expect Healing Balms to be a stratagem in the SW codex supplement, keyed to the Wolf Priest keyword.

You can take a Primaris Apothecary.
NM, you can't make a Primaris Apothecary the Chief Apothecary.

Actually I'm afraid not. Note that the rules restricting Chapters from taking various units specifically use keywords. Because the Primaris Apothecary has the 'Apothecary' keyword, it's covered by the 'Apothecary' restriction.
Big book page 366:
A rule with a comma-separated list of keywords (...) matches a model or unit if any one of those keywords matches that model or unit.
Otherwise, if you were correct, Black Templars would now be able to take Primaris Librarians as well as Librarians in Phobos Armour.

PRIMARIS APOTHECARY is not the same keyword as APOTHECARY. The Primaris Apothecary has the INFANTRY, CHARACTER, PRIMARIS, PRIMARIS APOTHECARY keywords, while the oldmarine Apothecary has the INFANTRY, CHARACTER, COMMAND SQUAD, APOTHECARY keywords. Not sure what your comment about Phobos/Primaris Librarians has to do with anything, a Librarian in Phobos armour has the INFANTRY, CHARACTER, PRIMARIS, PHOBOS, PSYKER, LIBRARIAN keywords. A Primaris Librarian has the INFANTRY, CHARACTER, PRIMARIS, PSYKER, LIBRARIAN keywords. Black Templars cannot have any unit with the LIBRARIAN keyword. The restrictions for Space Wolves say they cannot take APOTHECARY; ASSAULT SQUAD; DEVASTATOR SQUAD; STERNGUARD VETERAN SQUAD; TACTICAL SQUAD. They can take PRIMARIS APOTHECARY units just fine. By your logic I could mix and match HERETIC ASTARTES and ADEPTUS ASTARTES units in a detachment because they both have the ASTARTES keyword.

That's hysterical. The being able to take a Primaris Apothecary probably won't be FAQ'ed before we see what they're doing with Wolf Priests. Hopefully the Primaris into Chief Apothecary thing will be fixed soon for the people running Primaris Only DIY.

i see another discrepancy in the index:
in 5th edition space wolf scouts have stats of a full space marine with scout armor, while blood claws (swift claws and skyclaws) have scout stats with power armor.
in this index, blood claws and skyclaws have full space marine stats and i guess we have to take the scouts and bikers from the space marine codex
oh i see, all scouts have gotten better since 8th

Primaris Apothecary will likely get FAQ'd because at the moment a Company Ancient(firstborn) cannot be the Chapter Ancient while the Primaris Ancient (non-Bladeguard) can (Terminator Ancient also can be a Chapter Ancient).
The Codex is a Mess right now.

Honestly, I expect a healing stratagem for wolf priest with the supplement drop... that's my guess, but we ll see.
|
As an aside, as "infinite" rolls is actually impossible even if the FAQ "allows" it, then it will always be a non-zero chance to pass them all. Eventually the two players will die. If they pass the game on to their decendents, they too will eventually die. And, at the end of it all, the universe will experience heat death and it, too, will die. In the instance of "infinite" hits, we're talking more of functional infinity, rather than literal.
RAW you can't pass the game onto descendants, permissive ruleset. Unless we get an FAQ from GW. |
