My favourite reviewers present some miniature games this time!

I like these streamlined designs, I really do. I just wish games stopped using this Gotcha!/cards-out-of-the-blue mechanics that are getting more and more popular (Warcaster, A Song of Ice and Fire, WH:Underworlds...) Oh, I'd just love to see Gotcha! cards die :] I think they cheapen the experience, when an otherwise reasonable, good move is invalidated by some out-of-the-blue card, punishing you for making a good decision. Why even try to make good moves then ?

Take that mechanisms are used to ensure the game is shaken up and forcing both players to adjust to the newest problem being posed by the newest parameter.

That said, its not the fault of the mechanism if it isn't working well. Its the designer, as well as the expectations of the player.

Some people just shouldnt play certain games due to their preestablished notions on what a game should be, rather than what the game actually is.

And sometimes its just piss poor game design. Lose a turn being the most obvious and egregious example of take that done absolutely wrong.

Tinker Turf looks nice.

I remember seeing them at PAX Unplugged. Didn't pick up anything at the time but it all looked great. Would be perfect for Stargrave.
