Subject: Forest Goblin Spider Riderz in 6th Edition

We are attempting to patch fun models into our 6th edition greenskins gameplay.
Was there ever an official entry for Forest Goblin Spider Riderz in 6th edition after they appeared in Ravening Hordes?
This is what we have so far and will be play testing this month (matches Ravening Hordes entry with updated 6th ed special rules):
Rare Choice
(0-1 Units of Spider Riderz may be in your Army) 12 Pts/Model
Forest Goblin : M4 WS2 BS3 S3 T3 W1 I2 A1 Ld6
Giant Spider: M7 WS3 BS0 S4 T3 W1 I1 A1 Ld5
Unit Size: 10+
Equipment: Hand Weapons. May equip spears (+2pts/model), short bows (+3 pts/model) and/or shields (+1 pts/model)
Special Rules: Wall-Crawlerz- Giant Spiders ignore movement penalties for diff terrain such as woods/cliffs but do not ignore water features such as rivers/swamps
ADDED RULES: Fear Elves, Animosity, Poisoned Attacks (Spiders Only)
Any advice from someone who has already done this or from someone who's found something official from 2001-2005?

As far as I know, there was nothing official from GW between RH and the 7th Ed armybook O&G.
However, I was always in line with 7th edition point costs for the spider jocks, which was the same as Wolf Riders.
Spider's profile was toned down to Strength 3, while Initiative was 4.
They had shields and optional spears & short bow (each 1p per model), which seems to be more reasonable than the whopping +3 for short bows and +2 for spears.
15 points extra for 5 shots S3 which will hit at 6es most of the time (long range and unit moved) are not worth it in my book!

Moscha,
Thanks a ton for the thoughtful response.
Would you suggest having them as a Rare unit still?
Also what are your thoughts on having them be NOT fast cavalry to really distinguish them from wolves?

Honestly? You could just port the 7th Ed. Spider Rider entry into 6th. The Orcs and Goblins book was one of the few 7th Ed. books that didn't leap too drastically, if at all, from 6th to 7th.

Yeah your bets bet is to just use their 7th edition profile. As stated the Orc and Goblin book was the first 7th edition Army book and 7th edition was mostly a modified 6th edition anyway. So even using the rules from a later edition won't really cause much problems in 6th.
Alternatively just use wolf rider points for it. Its not like Spider Riders are super overpowered or anything anyway.

Oh, I totally overlooked you had them as a rare unit.
No, I would not suggest having them as Rare, as well as NOT taking fast cav away from them.
In the rare segment, they would contest the Doom Diver, Giants, Trolls, The Pump Wagon and Dogs of War for a place in your army list.
And why would you ever consider fielding a unit that is, even with the profile of the RH with higher strength, less beefy than Boar Boys, and slower than their core unit counterparts, the Wolf Riders? Especially if you have to leave that handy Doom Diver / Giant / Troll unit at home because you did.
I see them as a nice way to add some additional flavor to your army list, being able to move unhemmed through forest and the like, at the price of a lower overall movement rate.
Just field them with 7th ed rules I say, they work perfectly fine in 6th edition.

OK, can't tell you guys how much I appreciate all the feedback. This is our new statline for them that we will be playtesting at the end of the month:
Matches 6th Edition Wolf Boyz Statlines for the most part
CORE CHOICE - Base Cost 10 Pts/Model
Forest Goblin M4 WS2 BS3 S3 T3 W1 I2 A1 Ld6
Giant Spider M7 WS3 BS0 S3 T3 W1 I3 A1 Ld5
Special Rules: Wall-Crawlerz, Fast Cavalry, Animosity, Fear Elves
Unit Size: 5+ ---------------- Weapons & Armour: Hand Weapons
Any Unit may be equipped with Spears for +1 Pt/Model and/or Short Bows for +2 Pts/Model.
Any Unit may be equipped with Shields for +1 Pt/Model
Any Unit may be equipped with Light Armour for free, but will no longer count as Fast Cavalry
Upgrade one Spider Rider to: Musician (6pts) Standard Bearer (12pts) Champion (12pts, champ has +1A)
Unit may be upgraded to Toxic Spiderz for +2 Pts/Model (Poisoned Attacks, Spiderz Only)
So if you are bringing a Unit of Spiderz with all the fixins they are ringing up at 16 Pts/Model (previously this would have been 18). Spiders' Strength nerfed down to 3 but Initiative buffed to also 3.
Poison is now available for a small fee, similar to Savage Orcs' Warpaint (slight nerf but they still end up being cheaper than they were under our RH version).
They are a Core Unit of Fast Cavalry now rather than a Rare Unit of regular cavalry (which is really two buffs).
We considered making Short Bows only +1 Pt/Model as suggested but that would make their short bows cheaper than the Wolf Boyz which we did not want to do.
We also considered making the Poisoned Attacks free but my opponent vetoed citing a recent game in which his Witch Elves did work with their Poisoned Blades.
I will be fielding an army that has both at least one unit of Spiderz and at least one unit of Wolf Boyz and we will compare and contrast for balance.
