I've wanted to get some Bot War minis since the game was released, as a long-time fan of 80s Saturday morning cartoons. But it just never happened due various reasons. But when I was offered a batch of second-hand minis in a trade, I grabbed what looked like a bargain with enthusiasm.

These are the first four I've painted:

Broadsword has been painted in the iconic colours of Optimus Prime, although his mini more closely resembles Blaster.

Apax is based on Kup and painted accordingly.

Doubleback is based on Blurr.

Last is Phantom, based on Jazz.

The game has a rough scale of 10mm, although anyone familiar with the cartoons will know that the actual size of the heroes changed depending on the needs of the plot.

These minis are very close to the copyrighted designs of the Transformers that inspired them and since these were made they've all gone out of production to be replaced by designs that are more original, which is good for Bot War and Traders Galaxy, but I'm really happy to have the originals.

Whether I'll play the game or not, I'm undecided. But these guys are a slice of pure childhood nostalgia for me and I love them.

I still have a few more to paint, including some bad guys, but it may be a while before I can get to them.

They look great, your paint jobs have perfectly captured their inspirational source material. I definitely got a hit of nostalgia looking at them.

I like the cartoony "shiny metal and glass" effect you've got going on, and they are nice and contrasty. The bases could have been a bit more thematic perhaps?

I could've, but I want to run them at several scales - 6mm, 10mm and 15mm - so didn't want anything too scale-specific on the bases. Might even run them at 28mm of I have a good excuse..

Two more Bot War minis finished.

I'm not sure what the first one is called, yet, but I think we can all see what the inspiration is. I couldn't resist this one, as it appeals deeply to my inner child, watching TV in his pyjamas on a lazy summer Saturday morning.

The tank is from the Democracy (human good guys) faction, inspired by another cartoon franchise, closely related to the transforming robots one.

I have a bunch of Democracy infantry still to get to...

EDIT - He's called Ironskin.

Lol. iPity is a surprisingly good name for a robot.
