Well-met,

Been out the hobby a while and just wanted to give a 1500pts Necrons list a go.

List is designed to have no dead weight - everything is killy, hopefully causing threat saturation on opponent.

Outrider Detachment - 2 HQ, 1 Elite, 5 Fast Attack

Dynasty Traits: Rad-Wreathed (-1T to enemy units within engagement range), Relentlessly Expansionist (6" move before game starts)

Catacomb Command Barge - 155pts
- Gauss Cannon, Warscythe
- Warlord (Voidreaper, Honourable Combatant)

Orikan the Diviner - 110pts

C'tan Shard - Nightbringer - 350pts

10 Triarch Praetorians - 250pts

6 Canoptek Wraiths - 210pts
- Vicious Claws

6 Canoptek Wraiths - 210pts
- Vicious Claws

3 Ophydian Destroyers - 105pts

3 Ophydian Destroyers - 105pts

1495pts

General Scheme (using Marines as an example as they are most common!)

- Wraith units are both tarpits and damage dealers: and they're fast (what's not to like?). They will shoot up the board and get stuck in, wounding T4 marines on 2+ thanks to their S6 and the Dynastic trait. With the Dynasty pre-game 6" move and their 12" move I've got a decent chance of Turn 1 charges.

- The Destroyers will likely deep strike and go after backfield objective holders. They will make mincemeat of them, and their S4 will still wound Marines on a 3+ thanks to the Dynasty trait. They are nasty if left unattended and so add to the threat saturation, and can use their redeployment stratagem to shoot back over and control any of my own backfield objectives if needed.

- The Barge will initially keep behind the Praetorians (who aren't exactly slow themselves), until a juicy character is within threat range and he will happily fly over enemy screens and assassinate. Even without Look out sir he's tough (the stratagem boosting his invul to 4+ comes to mind, coupled with T6, nine wounds and quantum shielding). His weapon will cut through most armour and denies wound-ignoring rules (FNP etc), so only Invuls will be effective against him.

- Orikan will have to Advance to keep up initially (but he hasn't got a gun so no problem really), and will be applying 5++ and charge re-rolls to the Praetorians. When the stars align and he becomes Super Orikan he will happily get stuck in himself. His weapon ignores Invuls and most armour, probably the least overt threat but quite nasty when empowered.

- Praetorians are a threat in both shooting and combat. S5 and D2 with good AP - perfect Marine-hunters. Stratagem can buff them to hit on 2s, and although they don't benefit from Dynasty traits they're fast enough to catch up and S5 is still good for wounding Marines. Ideally they will receive 5++ all game from Orikan - they just need to keep within 9".

- Nightbringer does what he says on the tin. Absolute carnage if left unattended, big threat: only slightly slower than the rest of the army which forces hard choices on the opponent.

So that's it. Everything is killy in its own right, and capable of operating fairly independently. Only units that will rely on each other early doors is the Praetorians taking 5++ off Orikan, and also screening both the Barge and Orikan. Any thoughts?

So the main things I would look at are:

Breaking the praetorians into two 5 man groups vs a 10 man, but that's is subjective.

I would like to see some scarabs in here honestly to screen and hold back field. With Rad-wreathed their 3 str becomes downright scary. Consider potentially dropping some wraiths for an army of scarabs?

Sensible suggestions, might have to take a second Outrider detachment for all the Fast Attack!

Could cut down the Wraith units to 4 each and pay for 9 Swarms. Best as 3 units of 3?

A cool list for sure! I'd definitely put some scarabs in too, could drop a single wraith from each squad to put 5 scarab bases on the board. That's 20 wounds for 70pts. Speaks for itself really.

The other thing I would consider is having at least one obsec unit in the list i.e a troops choice. Fighting for objectives is massive in 9th, and while this list is very killy, nothing feels worse than having a single obsec model in your opponents army survive and snatch your points away.

I am not convinced of Orikan in your list, as he is quite unreliable to actually power up early enough. And if he does not, all he gives is the Chronomancer buff to the Praetorians. If that is what you are looking for, go for it. If you want him to be a beatstick, I would rather use something that is "always on" like a Skorpekh Lord. To stay as close to your initial list, incorporating this suggestions:

++ Outrider Detachment -3CP (Necrons) [80 PL, 9CP, 1,500pts] ++

Catacomb Command Barge [9 PL, 150pts]: Relic: Voidreaper, Tesla Cannon, Warlord, Warlord Trait (Codex 6): Honourable Combatant, Warscythe
