I've watched several batreps with magnus in them and i swear in a lot of them he'd been assembled and painted sans his hornb3wb chest (or dare i say 'breast") plate?

I'm getting the impression a chunk of people who have magnus don't like his 'breastplate' and leave it off intentionally.

a few people take it further and seem to make him without most of his armor.

So i'm wondering how many people have magnus and of you, did you do him with the horned chestplate or not and why?

At least a couple people made reffs to it looking like something lady gaga would wear.

I see some conversions when i search for images of magnus miniature and it seem like a lot of folks leave the plate off or at least remove and convert over the horns.

From a pragmatic POV that hornb3wb plate is a disaster. I mean if you have to dive for cover you're hosed. But is a daemon prince going to think like that? Probably not.|

So hey, if you have a magnus done let's see a pic and say what you think of his armor.

I've noticed without armor magnus shows some cybernetic augmentation, especially on his popeye arm.

I know primarchs had two hearts, i guess they have to be augmented to wear power armor too.

Also, to be honest, i think the best painted magnus models i saw usually left off his chestplate.

I'm not saying there weren't any mediocre painted ones without the plate, or that there weren't great painted ones with it, but the ones i'd say IMO the very best painted ones tended to leave it off.

This page shows an absolutely magnificent magnus paintjob with the chestplate to be fair.

I think it's a terrible design choice but at least they didn't include a codpiece to match.

All threats to magnus are waist high. Why hide the abs he worked so hard for?

I'd say the real threats to him were big stuff like GDs, guilleman, mortarian, the avatar, etc.

Edit: Thinking of theats to him that were waist high, if i were magnus i'd have a foot thick adamantium codpiece just for slaanesh forces...

If I had a Magnus I'd definitely either mod or leave off his breastplate.

Working on it

I'm in the minority here, I'm impartial on the horns, hey were on the original armor he had, but they were by the collar bone instead of on the chest.

Regardless I built mine with the plate on simply because color wise it added more contrast. I've painted him red (As he should be) but used Incubi blue as an armor base with screaming bell trim, so the addition of the armor added to the overall aesthetic.

That's just my 2 cents on it though, the model is great either way.

Not the biggest fan of the horns but I prefer the chestplate, would probably do what the guy in the second pic has done; use the chestpiece but shaved the horns off.

I'll see if I can get a good photo of mine, but I had mine commissioned with ZERO armor at all aside from the helm. I think the model looks a lot better without the armor.

I'm a big fan of the horns. To me they are a statement of both the fluff, wherein he wears them, and also help portray the sort of "old magic" that feels so other-worldly. Animal spirit worship is about the oldest of real-world religions, and the idea that he's channeling old and forgotten powers that are pervasive throughout the universe, dangerous, and not entirely controllable... it just feels so on point.

So yeah, I go with the chestplate and horns. I'm 40k enough to do it and be proud to do so.

I really like the horned breastplate, it gives Magnus an interesting 'Sumerian look', while the muscled torso is just very generic. I think that the seeming impracticality of the armour is symbolic of the wearer having moved beyond mundane, physical concerns.

At first I didn't like them, in fact I didn't like the whole model.
Now I'm really fond of it and think it fits his miniature and aesthetic perfectly.

That's why I went with the horns:

If you want you can check my instagramm @tizca_blues, there I have more pics of him.
Quite happy about my magic boy Magnus, definitely my best paint job so far.
