G’day from the Slave Dungeon,

Welcome to another year, one that we are starting with a big release. From the brainchild of Sensei Kow Yokoyama, Slave 2 Gaming is proud to announce the release of Maschinen Krieger in 15mm.

This release is still fairly small with only 5 Units per Army, these being a testing of the waters for the Ma.K universe & a set point to planning for the future.

Before we go any further, there are a few people to thank for helping this to happen, however, I will keep it short. Kow Yokoyama (Creator of Maschinen Krieger), Scott Hards (Hobbylink Japan), Mike Broadbent (Sculpting, moulding & casting), Jayden Barr (Grand Scale Games), Kye Moran (Killing Prints).

The first cab off the ranks is the Independent Mercenary Army (IMA). We see 3 types of Armoured Fighting suits: AFS Mk 1, AFS Mk 2, Super Armoured Fighting Suit (SAFS).
We also see 2 different Walkers: the Jerry and the Goblin, the Goblin pack comes with both the Rotary Machine Gun and the Rocket Launcher attachments.

The Strahl Democratic Republic (SDR) also has 3 packs of Suits; the Konrad, Gustav & Heinrich.
The SDR 2 packs of Walker, these being the Krote & Pak Krote.

All the Suit packs have 6 various posed figures, while each Walker pack contains a single figure. All packs are A$13.50 and are cast in metal. We do have LIMITED STOCK with this release, but we can restock within a week, so we won’t have a stock level on the website.

Now, there have also been some questions about rules for the figures. At this time, we have put up links on the Slave 2 Gaming website to the 1980’s board game rules and our own house rule adaptation of these rules. We have also spoken to Robin Fitton to have cards made to use these figures to play Gruntz.

Our own plans to make an official Maschinen Krieger in 15mm will be based around how well the range does.

That’s a about all for now, you can check out these new releases plus all our other products at www.slave2gaming.com

I dig these sculpts. Hope enough sales are generated to encourage an official rule set.

I fear this is ass-backwards. I doubt 15mm sci-fi wargaming is big enough (heh) to see whole armies of this sold for generic systems alla Gruntz right from the gates. It pains me, because I'd like to see more of the insanely creative model-kit designs and aesthetic find their way onto tabletop (that's why I think Ash Barker's mecha combat game Gamma Wolves could be a budding classic) and because this is so obviously a work of love by a dedicated fan. But there needs to be at least a promise of the experience for people picking it up, my argument being the fantastical success of flashy bloated boardgame Kickstarters, that turn out to be rather gakky games. As it is, the release presumes either total infatuation with the models, which at this scale and paint job quality capture only so much of the MaK parent kits or knowledge and liking of the original thing. There is no graphic design or illustration accompanying the release, very little fluff to make one care about those funky boilersuit robos and the release trailer, while I appreciate the work that went into it, appears amateurish in a sense that points the previous shortcomings out, rather than making up for it with some DIY, "guerilla" commitment (some have pointed out the use of terrain from another well established small-scale sci-fi game, but I'm not too hung up on that). I think even just a MaK Gruntz module document or zine-like booklet and some cool dice on release, with some illustrations or a short comic, would go a long way towards saying "here is a game you can play these with right now, we plan on supporting and expanding it!"
Let me conclude by saying my thoughts are those of someone who rather likes the whole MaK thing and really hopes for the success of its 15mm iteration.

The whole premise of Gamma Wolves seems interesting...can you tell me more about it? Their Facebook page isn't that helpful.

I was considering answering here, but I figure the rulebook might, if anything, help sell some MaK mechs so ...

Gamma Wolves is basically a minis-agnostic small model-count build-your-own frames/mechs skirmish game about daring pilots and their machines. Author felt like it would be cool to have a game where one would get to use all those awesome Gundam kits, scratch-builds and why not, even MaK models. The game doesn't really care about the scale as long as your models fit on the base.
I suggest checking out author's own YT channel Guerilla Miniature Games for battreps and book flipthroughs.

I am very tempted to pick up a bunch of these in the near future to “bling” out my SF3D board games. But are there plans to release the Dollhouse and Krachenvogel?

I’ll have to go through the unit lists tonight...

Urusei Yatsura, Cerebus the Aardvark, Machiavelli, Plato and Happy Days. So, how was your childhood?

You said what I held back from saying. I fully agree. Doing a Kickstarter for a printed rule book eventually, with models ready to ship and revealing plans for more, would probably do well in comparison.

Here is the game you will want to use these in..... Dirtside II from Ground Zero Games.

https://freewargamesrules.fandom.com/wiki/Dirtside_II

You can also use them in....

Gruntz
Rampant Galaxies/Stars
Gamma Wolves
Star Grunt
Tomorrow's War
Rogue Planet
MechAttack

The list really just goes on, and on, and on. They will work in pretty much any generic Sci Fi rulesets. If you need to find some, try here...

Leave Drew at Slave2Gaming a wishlist- he and Mike are massive fans of the board game. Most importantly, vote with your wallet! When this range takes off, I get to work on wave 2!

Any idea if they also have the rights to a board game reprint? Now that would get me really interested, especially if redone in those glorious retro colours!

I do not think they do, but I am sure Slave will be along soon to clarify.

Sorry for not responding sooner, been a little busy.

Slave 2 Gaming doesn't hold the rights to the 80's board game SF:3D Original (even Kow Yokoyama doesn't own the rights to the board game), there is a link to the SF:3D Original rules on our website, and this has a lot of the fan-base info added as well. This is not S2G's either, we're just sharing it.

We had discussed rules, but decided against it for the moment as there are so many other systems that are proven in the gaming community, we didn't feel a need to pull people from their preferred game. I really like the sound of Gamma Wolves (just looked it up, will most likely be buying it soon) and if anyone wanted to make some stats for the Ma.K figures, I'd be more than happy to share them. We also discussed the idea of chasing the SF:3D license, but we are not set up to make these sorts of things.

I've had alot of discussion around which systems people will use for these figures, especially since the release yesterday. Here's a few of my favorites that haven't been mentioned:
- Halo Ground Command
- Flames of War
- Konflict 47
- Planet 28
- Warzone/Aliens V Predator Unleashed
- 1 Hour Skirmish Wargames
- All Quiet on the Martian Front.

Mike has mentioned that he plans to make stats for the Ma.K range to be used with Stargrunt II, and as mentioned in the original blurb, we hope to also have cards available for Gruntz. But if players out there have other games that they want to make them for, I'd love to share them.

Lucas Blackwolf, sorry that the the models and paint scheme don't excite you, our budget can only stretch so far and we tried to make best of what we had. Good to hear your opinion about it though, all feedback is good feedback.

The idea of a Kickstarter was never really discussed as the License was fairly straight forward in its direction, most of the art and information that is out there for Ma.K was not available to us either. If you want to know more about the Ma.K universe, check out this blog: https://www.paintonplastic.com/paintonplasticblog/2021/1/12/what-is-maschinen-krieger-mak-zbv3000-with-lincoln-wright

There are plans to expand the Ma.K range (for those that are wondering), Mike has mentioned the Nutrocker and some other ideas, but they are all still in discussion.

Cheers

I think your enthusiasm shows and I wish you all the commercial success.
Gruntz are a good choice, I know they are one of the more popular 15mm sci-fi systems.
Another option might be getting into the One Page Rules, that also seems to be a very popular choice as of late.
