This might be a trivial question: I have a cloudy memory that something about the guardsmen crew of the FW artillery pieces was changed. But I don't have the newest FW book. So how exactly does it work with the crew?

Does the heavy mortar still have his 3 dudes standing around? Can they still do stuff like shooting or standing in the way of Things? Or are they gone? Or does the Mortar and his crew now go on a base (and if so, what size?)?

They still have 3 dudes who are not armed or have any wargear at all.

For all rules and practical purposes they are a single unit, ranges and LoS are measured to the gun, crew cannot be targeted. I'd suggest just placing them all on a single base, a 120mm oval one may suffice.

Thanks. It sounds a bit weird to have three guys present, but not able to do anything, but I just saw that the Mortar Battery seems to have 3 CC attacks at S3, WS 4+. So they seem to at least swing in CC.

Just to be on the safe side: Is it considered OK to put models who are often shown without bases (like the towed artillery pieces) on large enough bases or is this considered modelling for advantage because they have a higher footprint?

Simple solution is to use magnets.

As long as your base is not overly large, most people will not care.

If someone's going to complain about a frankly mediocre unit being 3-4mm higher due to being on a base, they're probably not worth your time.

Here is what I came up with:

The bases are made with a Greenstuff World egyptian rolling pin. Then painted with Terradon Turquoise and drybrushed with Sybarite green. Funny way to have the crew and mortar on one base, but the option to separate them.

Nobody should complain about that.
