So I just bought the Main BRB, and I was thinking, is this a good time to get into the Digital market? The local GW rep said he doesn't know anything about it because it's not something he sells in the store, but he assumed all the books were constantly updated to the most recent FAQ/CA.

So my question is, if I buy the codex on the app, and the wording of a rule changes, does that change in the app as well or do I still have an older copy? I just want to know because my main faction (Custodes) hasn't been announced and likely won't for some time yet, but I am already sick of keeping track of rule changes. Is the App self updated?

As far as I know, you can't buy a codex in the app. To get the content in the app related to a certain codex, you have to buy the corresponding book and use the code provided at the end of the book to unlock said content in the app (app content is different from the book, it's just the stuff you need to play).
So you're pretty much out of luck with custodes since their book doesn't contain any code to unlock anything. If you wanted Custodes rules in the app, you would have to subscribe for a monthly fee, which would give you access to every 8th ed content until it's replaced by a 9th ed version (so if they release a 9th custodes codex, you would lose 8th ed Custodes and wouldn't get 9th rules until you buy the new codex and add your code to the app).

And to answer your question, the app's content is updated when they produce erratas and point changes, dunno at what pace though.

Anyone else find that updates wipe all the armies they make in the app? I’ve lost mine twice now, going back to battlescribe.

No, but a friend has had that happen with Azyr.

So there is no way to view the rules specific wording on the app? Just the points/list building?

Do the E books come with the code?

There are no e-books for 9th. At least GW apparently has no plan for them.

Its just physical book + code for app, and whatever you get in the app, is all you get.

GW has decided to no longer release e-books, to force you to use the app, when it's not fit for purpose

I've been trying to build a Craftworld list and still cannot get the custom Craftworld traits and points are still not correct. I've gone in and updated the app and still not luck.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Yes, and GW stated as much, while it is/was going through it's Beta. Now that we are in the pay for service phase (I think), I hope erasing armies is a thing of the past.

Their recent updates have changed the setup a bit so the old data isn't compatible.

I'd advise the following update procedure: delete GW's app; install Battlescribe.

I'm not a massive fan of BS's layout and interface but you know what it has going for it: it works. Also, it's free. You can even get it on your laptop/desktop.

Yea I am not confident that GW's app can handle the complexity of how list building is going - especially considering how DA is shaping up. They better have some really extensible data structure.

Or how DG worked out with all "if, and, but ..." on the options for PMs and BLs...

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Tested it in the app today, seems to be aware of the restrictions. Gives an error if you choose too many of a certain option.

Yea that one would be a little easier to code, because you can "reword" the logic to fit what exists. Throwing in gaining keywords and detachment restrictions and bonuses - not as fun. It was likely the cause for the last update.
