A family friend bought the Chaos Xmas Box (Decimation Warband) for Xmas with a view of getting into the game.

I am assembling and painting for him.

NOTE- I am not looking for uber efficiency, just friendly game but I wanted to ask re the following-

I split the 10 marines into 2 squads

1- Ranged with bolters+1rocket Launcher
2- Melee with Chainswords/pistols and 1 Plasma Gun.


Ive glued it all now and started painting when I thought....is the plasma gun in a squad armed with chainswords and pistols really stupid or does it all work ok in friendly games?

There are very few times I regret having a plasma gun somewhere. It’s just a good all rounder. It’s not 100% efficiency but they will find a use for it late too.. You only really lose 3 AP-1 attacks on the charge for 2 AP- attacks on the charge.

I’d maybe consider a power weapon for the melee aspiring champion but i don’t think anything there is incredibly underpowered for friendly games. Especially with the rest of that box

Just wanted to make sure I hadnt done something really stupid in modelling and making his list for him.

Guess if it come sin handy now and then(offering a little ranged help) then its ok. No serious must win games.

i mean obviously it'd been better if the plas gun squad also would've used bolters insofar as melee is still a bit ehh it's never a wasted point cost in general

Well, we do know a lot. They're going to continue to use the new weapon profiles for the weapons they have in common with Imperials (plasma, melta, etc) and they're going to get 2 wounds.
