I'm still a bit lost with the closure of FFG's forums - where does one go for news and longer-term plans for this game? To make it even harder: where does one go when one wishes to avoid Facebook, Twitter, etc...? There's a lot of really cool possibilities for this game, but I have no idea where/ what to follow along!

What I really need is that the Bad Batch gets a unit made. Those guys would be very cool to paint!

But given that X Wing doesn't even have Razor's Crest yet available (and I've not heard whispers that it's in the works) makes me nervous. I suspect the terms of the agreement have changed or on hold since Disney took over (based on nothing but speculation) and I'm worried they won't be able to make models / units for the newer stuff that's coming out.

Anyone know better? Thanks in advance!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

I wouldn't mind an answer to that question either. It doesn't seem like there's a lot happening at the moment.

The space bus and Imperial gunship articles are on FFG's website, along with the online store, and those articles mention watching their social media for the pilot cards that weren't shown in the articles closer to release. I haven't really checked, but yeah, I just ordered an in stock gunship from my online store of choice and I have not seen any tweets or posts or whatever about the cards.

That said, I'm horrible with social media so I may well have missed them. AMG's twitter seems to do nothing but to link to FFG website articles for their last Legion posts.

Guess the transition isn't anywhere close to completion and we're going to have to wait a while before there's any notable news presence for Legion again.

AMG are putting things up on Twitter and Facebook and that is all so far. Since the last large reveal of stuff for Legion all we have had is a couple of bits about the LAAT/le, Rebel bus and the Trident class assault ship for Epic X Wing.
Other than that its just been crickets, they did not even bother doing a Star Wars celebration day thing (unlike all the 3rd party companies). Someone did spoil the 'Fury of the First Order' squadron pack for X Wing though, contains 2x FO bombers and a Whisper.

I will have a check when I am on a computer and make sure our threads here are upto date (and update them if not) and try and keep on top of that.

There's stuff in AMG's Facebook feed. Not a lot, but some.

So Facebook at Twitter, huh?

That's too bad. I sure wish they had better online presence (though I reckon I'm still in the minority in wanting to avoid those sites as best I can...)

I don't get the impression that either AMG or FFG was given much heads up on the switch. Both feel pretty blindsided and AMG's site is definitely not set up for multiple games right now. I hear they have a big revamp in the works for late this year, but it sounds like they got to start on deciding a way to promote the games about the same time we all found out.

Right now they're clearly shepherding the things FFG already had in the pipe without little prep. I'd wager that won't change for a while unfortunately.

Yeah, they do seem like they were utterly blind sided by the whole shift. The good news is that they have managed to set up a rules forum on their site for Legion (but none of the other games from SW - https://forums.atomicmassgames.com/forum/24-star-wars-legion-rules-questions/).
The fact that they have apparently only got 2 staff members across the ranges is going to make this a slow process.

This was the big piece missing from the shift, for the FFG X-wing forum I lurked on.
People were herded to BoardGameGeek and others, but having an official forum was a big thing.

Ah, cool! I didn't even realize AMG had their own forum. Looks pretty quiet (396 posts at this time, and only a place to discuss rules) but maybe this is a start?

Their forum is only for answering rules questions. Its not really a social place.

I do worry that Asmodee pulled a "great job on that project; Here's 4x your current workload with no additional resources. Keep it up!"

I believe they've a Facebook group that facilitates discussion, but I've heard it's quite the hugbox where 'negativity' gets you banned.

It's pretty effed up all around. Legion, Armada, and X-wing stuff has all now been released without announcements to go with it. It's pretty bad when content gets released and I have no idea until I walk into the store.

I also just really miss the forums from FFG. Especially in these distant times.

Yea it is a thing that is becoming more common amongst the small/medium games that only has the FB as its infomation and discussion platform.
Right now the information flow and restock situation of all 3 games is not under controll and i dont think it will improve before next year.

The stock situation is under the same control it was before. All that is what Asmodee really does, which is why the transition hasn't really affected the product actually hitting shelves.

But it is not a common discussion platform like dakka is, just a place to get clarifications on rules.
They need to add news, general and hobby sub forums.

Rumour is AMG are developing a new website to provide a platform for releasing news and previews, much like the FFG site. It's kind of comical they didn't have it before they took over the game and I'm honestly pretty shocked that they couldn't put something together by now.

I think losing the social aspect of the forums is a big deal. The X-Wing forums were starting to die down a little about 6 months before the AMG shift was announced but they were still a good place to discuss the game. Right now it feels all the SW games are in a bit of an info black hole. Announcing stuff through the ephemeral social media platforms doesn't really work too well IMO.

I wish that I could think of a way of getting some of that discussion back here, we used to have quiet an active community (at least for X-Wing) but it has slowed to a trickle and despite having quiet a lot of active players here no one seems to want to talk about the games.

Yeah, become a pretty quiet place for Star Wars gaming discussion here.

I play a good amount of X-Wing as Empire, so would be neat to see how my experience differs from those here... and from the many discussions Gold Squadron Podcast has.

But how dang, majority of the X-Wing content I frequent has become podcasts sadly. Besides Discord/Reddit/Facebook... really doesn't seem to be a good forum to talk about it on.

Side note, 6x naked Black Squadron Scout TIE Strikers has been the most fun thing I have played in ages.

I don't know about X-Wing. But the Reddit for Armada seems to be the nexus for that game. I'd love to have more Armada discussion here, but I don't think many people play things outside of 40K or AoS.

I've been trying out 4 Saber Squadron Aces with Disciplined accompanied by...literally one of about 8 different options. It turns out Empire have a lot of ships around the 50-56 points mark. I'm really liking it so far. Against swarm lists you effectively have 5 aces with 3-dice attacks and against I5 and higher you have some brilliant blockers and Disciplined gives you a hell of a counter-punch. Against other I4s (mainly Rebels ATM) you have a bid to allow you to arc dodge and potential for reposition shenanigans with Disciplined allowing a TL into Boost/BR. It's really refreshing playing a swarm-ish list without the usual suspects of Howlrunner and Iden.

Pretty sure AMG got about as much notification of the change as we did. It's also good to remember that these companies are really not all that tech savvy when it comes to coding and usually have to hire (and find the budget to pay) someone for a website revamp. Usually you get something built that you can update through prebuilt tools like the blog and gallery and stuff, but making significant changes is probably a pretty significant cost.

Definitely hoping AMG gets a new site for their new place in gaming production. Forums included. I only just heard tonight that something new might be releasing tomorrow for X-wing? The FLGS store guys were getting in an order and that was their impression. And I have no idea if it's real or just an overdue restock.

Our state got back to no mask mandates this past month and we've begun rebuilding our community. At the two stores I help out at running events we got up to 7 guys for Armada/legion/X-wing on one night, which is not bad but not what we think we can get back to. And got 4 on the line for X-wing at the other store on a different night. A good start I think for all things considered and for only week three or four. It'll come around in sure.

Think their forum validation is broken. I get the confirmation email, click on the link, and then it just goes to a validation screen and nothing happens.

re: Website design- anyone can use Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix or a dozen other website software solutions ("website in a box"). The problem with such software is that you don't necessarily own or control the data, and once you upload something, it's no longer yours. They typically have a monthly fee based on how big the website is, and the amount of people that use it. Want to open a webstore? You'll lose upwards of 25% of all the transactions to fees. To make a custom website takes HTML/CSS knowledge, a server to keep it on, purchasing the URL for the site, and having some clue about website design for a professional looking site and to make it secure so not just anyone can go in and hack on it. That takes money. A lot of money. And you'll have to hire someone to manage it, which is more money. Small companies with few staff members can't afford a custom website like that. FFG has a fill time Information Technology team that manage their website. AMG does not.

I think their forum is only being used to post rules updates and clarifications at the moment so the validation not working may be on purpose. As far as the website stuff goes, I'm a web designer by trade, I know full well how long it can take to put a site together and the actual creation of the site and content is one of the fastest things to do, it's the politics and getting all the stakeholders to agree/care that takes the time. That's still Asmodee's fault though as they are ultimately the ones making the decisions and in charge of the money, so not having this ready to go by now is ridiculous. If there was any amount of joined-up thinking they'd have made sure the website was ready before handing everything over to AMG. That's particularly true when all the new stuff we've seen so far is still an FFG product due to lead times. They could easily have kept the various Star Wars stuff under the FFG banner until AMG's own content came out, which would also have given them the time to set up a proper website for it.

As a perfect example, the announcement of the new Resistance Y-Wing and Fury of the First Order packs was done recently...via Twitter and Facebook. Significant numbers of people seem to have missed this, probably because it's both a big change from how FFG did it, and social media's a really bad way to do those announcements due to how fast things tend to move there. If you don't notice it on the day it's posted chances are you're relying on someone else telling you.
