Recently finished my Craftworld Start Collecting that's been in my pile of shame for far too long, and realised at the end that this 'Starter Army' you might call it, is completely unplayable without further purchases.

Very clever marketing...

Most armies now have switched to the new Combat Patrols. I can only assume that Eldar will do too at some point in the future.

Thought it might be an interesting discussion to see what people think should be included when the time comes.

Keeping it under 500pts (and also being realistic about which units GW will pile into one of these boxes) I would like to see the following:

- Farseer Skyrunner

- 5 Dire Avengers

- 10 Guardians

- 3 Wind Riders

- Falcon

What do other Eldar players think?

Nonsense.
All youve got to do to play it as a heavy support detachment is pay the pts for a 2nd war walker & put it in strat reserve.
You keep it there until the one you have on board dies & recycle the model.
Or the game reaches turn 4 & renders the reserve unit moot.
Just don't play a mission that disallows reserves.

Wait, you are okey to play with models you don't have ?

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I'm not an Eldar player although I'd like to be some day so I come at it from a different angle. I like the current box for the most part, but don't like Warwalkers. The current box seems to support an Iyanden style list, it should have included 5 Dire Avengers instead of that Warwalker, I think that might have gotten me to buy 3 of them, maybe do a conversion on the second Farseer to get a Warlock and sell the third one.

I think I'd take out the Wind Riders and Guardians from your suggestion and add 5 Howling Banshees and 3 Shining Spears. I think 3 boxes should be a decent option for a great Start Collecting box.

From a visual perspective, I'm not a huge fan of Walkers either but on the table they're great units at the moment.

I can imagine GW giving away some Banshees in one of these but I highly doubt they would ever include units like spears or reapers.

Hopefully one day though, we'll find out!

Yeah we can forget anything finecast being in it. I think it'll be a farseer spiritseer swap and 5 DA's added and done. How much PL is it supposed to be for?

You used to be able to take both jetbikes and wraith guard as troops back in the day, and those are two of our most recently updated kits (other than Jain Zar and banshees). Am I correct in guessing our start collecting box might be from a time period when those units were still troops? It would make sense to push the new plastic as part of the start boxes.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
