that chameleon is amazing, is there somewhere you're selling the file?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I will be opening a shop up this weekend. I will also be giving a few models away.
I'll be sure to send you a link to the shop when it's open.

Thank you.
Here's a WIP of my next ant, the quadruple pistoleer. Shouldn't take me too long to finish him since I made a lot of the "bits" beforehand.

Almost done. I've made a lot of the "bits" beforehand, so I only need to make a couple of things and add the ones I already made.

I pondered on what people want but don't yet know they want and an ant with 4 flintlocks and poofy pants was the answer. Here he is in his finished state. It's always possible I'll have to make some minor changes in the sculpt, but I don't forsee any issues.

The first attempt at printing the bullet ant went well, but there was one issued, and it was the pistols. Although they did print, some of their details were just too small and fragile, and crumbeled when touched. I've remade the guns from scratch, simplified and beefed up the details on them, and made whole pistols a bit bigger. The mechanism of the flintlock in particular no longer looks like it could actually be functional, but it's better to have a less detailed and unfunctional detail on a miniature than a realistic but too fragile one.
I am rather sad that I couldn't put it up on the shop this sunday like I planned. I still don't have any sales there and I was hoping the higher quality of this model would help me make the first one.
Next up I will try and make the queen. It will be a large and ambitious project and I hope I am up to the task. It will in fact have a lot of termite queen features, as my research has discovered that ant queens don't look all that different form regular ants, while termite queens have distinctive looking egg laying rears that are so often represented in fiction of swarm like species.

That's a great start. I feel you could refine your lines and sharpen up the details and spend more time per model. But that's a good start for sure. Also, a highly original idea so bonus.
My only hangup is the lack of refinement. But that's your first try so.. keep at it. Good stuff.
What programs are you using to sculpt? Where are you getting stuck and how much time are you spending on each sculpt?

I've been paying more attention to the sharpening of lines with the later models. Is it still not refined enough? What should I do to improve?
My biggest problem I think is the fact that I'm not working off of any concept art. It would be much easier if I could work off some sketches but I don't know how to draw and commissioning concept art is too expensive for me. I can make a model in about 3 days of sculpting.

My biggest problem I think is the fact that I'm not working off of any concept art. It would be much easier if I could work off some sketches but I don't know how to draw and commissioning concept art is too expensive for me. I can make a model in about 3 days of sculpting.
All I can say is it will get better in time. But I think you should spend more time than 3 days per model. A lot of professional artists suggest reworking old artwork and new concepts, and methodology over and over until you've mastered it. A lot of professionals suggest doing something over five times. Start over and do it again and again until you've nailed it. I tend to push out one model a month, then spend another few months refining them before I move on to the next.
You also don't want to burn yourself out and scare off customers who will judge everything about your miniatures. You really need to get crisp-quality-looking stuff. I've done some test sculpts and shown old work on here and have had people send me hate mail and get really angry or belittle me for posting sketches, that are not finished works.
Patreon isn't a business model you should chase after early in your career. it's really difficult to compete with teams of sculptors offering hundreds of things for dirt cheap. So trying to push out models to compete might pull in a few dollars here and there but...could damage your brand in the long run. People will remember your name and what you put out. And could pass on future stuff. Really need to go big or go home to get out there and build up hype. So for now it might not be a good idea to concentrate on perfecting the fundamentals of sculpting and then working on speed.
Anyways you want to ensure that your stuff is ready so you don't lose customers before you start. I can safely say that some of your stuff could use more time looks a little doughy in some areas as a critique from one artist to another. What puts you ahead of the game is that you have an open mind, and already addressing your problem areas.
If you're looking to improve and your on twitch near the end of October we can go over some stuff and concepts ideas, sculpts etc. I'll be happy to show you some tips and just generally chat about 3D modelling and introduce you to some industry legends in the 3D modelling community who you are always down to chat about moddelling.
I really do look forward to whatever you're throwing out in the future.
Anyways it's WhiskerKing on twitch. There isn't much of a 3D miniature community, there are however a lot of 3D modellers, many many painters that have hundreds if not thousands of followers you could introduce your stuff to. I should be back by the end of October when the new studio will be set up.
Send me a Pm if you want and we can give a proper critique on some of the stuff problem areas and offer some helpful advice or point you in the direction of resources.
I really really like what you're doing with this stuff so stay positive and keep trying to get better, actively try to improve, repetition, repetition, repetition or so I've been told.
I think flipped Normals has a video on that very thing.
Cloth is a unique beast as well and very difficult to sculpt, but I've picked up a few tricks here and there I can show you.
Really cool-looking stuff. If you're interested send me a PM and I'll try to help you out if you want some honest feedback.

Thank you very much for the advice. Being connected to people who are good at digital modeling and sculpting would be a great help as I currently don't know many people who could critique my models in a meaningful way. I guess I'll send you some images of the model I'm currently working on when I finish it for some feedback.
