Subject: 5 Leagues from the Borderlands 3rd Edition announced by Modiphius!
After the absolutely incredible 5 Parsecs from Home, Modiphius has just announced a similar treatment for Ivan's fantasy sibling.
I really cannot speak highly enough about 5 Parsecs, so knowing the publisher is getting even more invested in the line has me thrilled. These games ended up being what I wanted Frostgrave/Stargrave to be (not that those aren't fun for what they are), and are well worth checking out.

According to Modiphius, the US books got stuck in customs, per Brexit, etc... I ordered directly from their UK site as they had orders up early, and got mine ages ago.
The pdf is obviously always available.
Excitingly, a 5 Parsecs Supplement just shadow-dropped today too! It's $12 and a bunch more randomness, optional rules etc... I'm going to throw a whole weekend at this one with my wife. Wonderful surprise.
Well, I'm personally not willing to pay double the price to have it shipped internationally. Hopefully they eventually figure out how to distribute it so it can be ordered from the US.

Interested in both as well! I wasn't aware of a fantasy version incoming. At least I'll be able to use my hundreds of old D&D minis from the WOTC prepainted line of the same name.

Maybe more of a 5 parsecs question since it's already out, but will these work for co-operative play / multiplayer? I really enjoy Stargrave and Rangers of Shadow Deep, but there's definitely a preference in my group for RoSD so a similar experience but sci-fi (rather than the PvP of Stargrave) would be brilliant.

Yes they are great for that. There's a page for expanding from solo to co-op and a whole section for running with a GM. The next expansion for 5 parsecs linked above adds PVP, among other things, as it's not in the core rules.

My wife and I exclusively play coop, and it is wonderful. Yesterday's expansion even added an expanded coop option for facing larger threats using two players crews, instead of having you share a single crew.

Question to people experienced with the previous editions: What foes could a player expect to face in this game = what minis are a must have (goblins, orcs undead etc.)?

Most of the statlines are presented in a way that you can easily interpret them as human threats in a low-fantasy setting: bandits, raiders, opposing kingdom's army, cultists, etc. The Dark Secrets category has a few entries that are explicitly called out as being undead and one demon-possessed cultist. And of course, monsters are monsters: giants, ogres, etc.
However, there is a paragraph that points out that as long as you can tell what they are, you can assign whatever fantasy races make sense for a category/statline. All raiders could be orcs and goblins, for example, or the opposing army could be hobgoblins or ratmen or whatever.
There's also a few supplement packs that contain a new category of a specifically supernatural threat - I know there's ones for lizardmen along the lines of Howard's snakemen or Lovecraft's Deep Ones, for example. Also for decidedly old-tales fae dark elves, and one for a cursed skeletal legion that has moved into your region still fighting the war they were cursed for retreating from long ago.
Basically, it's a low-fantasy game where you can choose how fantastic your enemies are. Raiders can be orcs, gnolls, the barbarian tribe living in the hills, or just foraging parties from the enemy army across the border.

Big thanks for the info

Sounds promising. I've been hoping for something else I could use my Nova Aetas miniatures for, and it sounds like this might work. Hopefully they are able to get it distributed to the US.

Well, officially it is... and I have a copy of Modiphius' version in hand so I can attest to its excellent quality. The distribution is a victim of... well all the crap going on in the world at the moment, but the relationship between Modiphius and Ivan (the author) is a huge net win. A LOT more eyes are going to end up on these amazing games of his.

Is the specific weapon loadout important for the enemies minis or can I build them as I want as long as it is obvious which mini has cc weapon or range one? For example I have my 12 Fireforge Northmen built like that - 3 x spear and shield, 2 x spear, 4 x sword and shield, 3 x sword. All except 1 have also daggers. Or my 15 goblins, who have - 5 x bow, 6 x spear and shield, 4 x sword and shield.

Nevermind. Got my answer

You do not need to do that unless you want to, as Chrome Hammer Ascension (also from Nordic Weasel Games, but not by Ivan), already exists. The designer took his inspiration from Ivan's designs, so it is in the same vein as 5P or 5L, but for fantasy Cyberpunk like Shadowrun. I own it, but have not played it yet. Bought it after it was mentioned in the Solitaire Miniature Games on Your Table geeklist at Boardgame Geek. I'd have started already, but I've gotten distracted with a new computer game (which also is responsible for ending my Five Leagues campaign).
Just discovered 5 parsecs and need to give it a try before committing to 5 leagues, but if this proves to be what I think it is then this is will be THE ruleset I always wanted.
Enemies in the new edition:
Big monsters:
Ogre, troll, minotaur, werewolf, golem, big lizards, manticores, griffons, giants, a few types of ghost, undead knight, fiend, undead construct, elemental, giant spider, wyvern, hydra, dinosaur type and a small dragon.
Humans (criminals, cultists, assassins)
ghouls, mutants, Rat men, Elf/fey warriors, goblins, dogs, tree people, barbarians / orcs, Lizard/reptile/frog/fish dudes, some lizard animal types, Faceless kingdom (Soldiers in fully enclosed helmets or masks),hounds, imps, zombies, wolves, big rats, bugs, skeletons, gargoyles, ghosts, spiders, crystal statues.

The physical book is up for preorder on the Modiphius site; just like with five parsecs, you can get the PDF version early with the preorder.
I have just flicked through but there is a lot of cool improvements from previous versions/Five Parsecs, especially in the diversity of scenario options (tracking bandits to their camps versus encountering them on the road, hunting monsters for their bounty, exploring a multilevelled dungeon etc)

I'll put in another promotion for 5 Parsecs if you haven't taken a look at it. It's a great way to use all the weird miniatures I've collected over the years, and finding narrative ways to link the games is a lot of fun. If 5 Leagues is anything like it, it will be a blast to play.
Also a selfless promotion for my blog detailing Inquisitor al-Nasr's search for fancy xenos tech to play with.
