I really like the sound of planetfall. Very excited!

So are the two released so far expansions worth it or better skipped?

I like the second one, but only played one game with the combat rebalance. They added two species which are fun and add some flavor, and the spaceship looting sounds very cool.

The watched a review for the first one, and it didn't really convince me.

Apparently one allows you to resolve combats without the need to set up the board and models. That would be handy for when time is short, or you just don't fancy a particular combat.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

It may be handy for some but I play those games for minis' battles

Glad to see a thread here for Five Parsecs! I got into it by watching Guerilla Miniature Game's campaign of Five Leagues from the Borderlands, and it looked like it was a great game and a great way to build a fun narrative. I decided to get Five Parsecs because I have a crap ton more Sci-Fi minis than Fantasy ones, and I began a campaign a while back. It's even more fun building up my characters and world through the random mechanics than I thought it'd be.

One thing, though, is that I was a bit saddened that close combat didn't work the same way as Five Leagues, as that was one of my favourite things in that Let's Play. I have been trying to transfer the close combat mechanics from FL, and it's worked pretty well so far (the few times I've managed to engage in close combat, lol). Has anyone else tried that? If so, did it work out well? I think that the +2 for a melee weapon in Five Parsecs might unbalance the combat a bit if I use it with the Five League System, as you can't seem to "crit fail" with FL and even more so if your character's melee weapon has the "Elegant" rule allowing them to re-roll. I could have it that all enemies have a type of melee weapon or pistol to help with that.

Anargrin is sent on another mission: to hunt down a rogue vampire. A rogue vampire with no consistent modus operandi and who is exceedingly good at hiding its tracks. So much so even the veteran Anargrin is forced into desperate speculation. But worst of all: drive him into desperate measures. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?

I am in the opposite camp. One of the many reasons I did abaddon Five Leagues was its cc. I absolutely hated those 3 steps in each, and every combat. For me Parsecs one (and the game as a whole) is superior.

Chris Birch (Modiphius has now full rights to IPs for all Ivan's games) said that they are gathering all errata etc. for Five Parsecs, and there is a chance for the updated print in the (hopefully near) future.

I bought and have been skimming through the new expansion book: Fixer's Guidebook. Now, I'm looking at the new Expanded Faction rules and it looks pretty damned cool so far.

Hey, uhh sorry to take so long to reply. Been as crook as a dog for the past few days. The one big new edition I've looked at is the new faction system that seems to be a companion and expands more on the Rival/Patron system. When you come to a new planet, you roll to see how many factions there are. Then you roll what kid each one is. You can ally with one or more or all of them and play them off against them. You can gain levels of loyalty by doing jobs for factions, and you can use Loyalty to buy things such as a new companion who starts with the same background upgrades as your beginning characters (but they'll only stay with you if you are successful in the next job), etc. You can even aid a single faction so they can take over the planet, and they'll fight alongside you during an invasion. When you do normal Patron jobs you roll to see whether they're involved with a faction and completing that mission will increase loyalty with said faction as well.

It seems like a very cool system in my eyes.

BTW guys, what minis do you use for Hulkers? I was thinking about WGA Spacenam as they are very muscled.

My last Encounter was against a Brat Gang, but they were accompanied by a Hulker Bruiser, which I used this Station Forged Chaos Cultist proxy for...

I decided the Brat Gang had hired the Hulker Bruiser for a mission, a mission they completed, but the Bruiser just stuck around, and he bit out the throat of the last leader when he tried to confront him. So the Brat Gang are terrified of the Bruiser and pretty much do all their looting and plundering to appease the Bruiser, lol.

I bought ten to use as minis and another ten for a diorama I've been making. So, I guess that I'm using them for Hulker Bruisers from now on. Too bad all of them just have pistols and melee weapons, so, yeah.

Thanks! I just had my crew go to a new star system and used the rules from the Freelancer's Handbook for Instability, and now it's an unstable planet (because I rolled over 4 on a 1d6). I then made the factions with the Faction Rules and got the maximum of 4 with the 1d3+1 on the roll. Then, rolled up what the factions were: one is a Political Faction, one a religious faction, a Secret Faction and one a Criminal Enterprise, a nice diverse lot of factions. It seems I left one planet, which was stabilising after a civil war, straight to one on the brink of one, lol. What did Little Finger say? Chaos is a ladder, blah blah blah.

The game has gotten quite a bit more interesting. What factions do I support? Do I support one so much that they might wipe out the others? The instability thing alongside that, I might regret having that with the faction system as it might be hard to keep aware of alongside the four factions (maybe five if you roll it during the "faction action" part of the Campaign Turn, which takes place during the "Invasion" phase if there isn't one going on.

Uhm, yeah, will try to keep y'all posted on how all these extra mechanics work.

I finished my 1st Campaign Turn with the extra rules today, and it worked out quite well. I wish the PDF expansions were books as well, but it was still easy enough. Luckily, the new book, the Fixer's Guidebook, does provide a new updated version of the Campaign Turn steps, although it did miss to roll for a Faction Event in the After Battle part. Which I'm pretty certain it's rolled on even if you don't do a Faction Mission. The Patron I did the quest for was affiliated with a faction and it turned out I had to roll a 1d6, and on a 6 I get +1 Faction loyalty which I managed to do. But it seems an easy part to miss, though.

I also rolled for instability from the Freelancer's Handbook, which was easy enough to remember, and because it was a Patron mission, the roll was 1d6-1, which I rolled a five on, so almost the max. It's interesting: every time you gain 10 Instability points, you roll on a 1d100 table to see what happens, and that can do anything like start a civil war or riots. I'm not sure how that will interact with the Faction mechanics, and feel I might have to make up a way for it to interact when I get ten instability points.

It's getting more and more interesting, and feeling so far, this extra stuff is adding rather than detracting or confusing the game. It's pretty cool stuff! I also recommend people join the Five Parsecs from Home unofficial Facebook Group if anyone hasn't already. The dudes there are really nice and helpful. Also, the creator Ivan Sorenson updates there a lot.

Also, my favourite photo I've taken of my games so far. For my crew, I decided to rip off the main characters of my 40k fanfic series Secret War, and this is the leader Attelus Kaltos shooting a rogue soldier through the head, lol.

It's another game set in the same universe and it's going to be bundled in with the expansions into one book and allows 5pfh crews play it. I think. So it's not just the expansions, which is pretty cool.

I have read through the bug hunt rules. They sound very interesting, and I really like the cross-over potential. Might tweak the payment table, will see.
Also read through the latest expansion, the faction rules are very flavorful and add a ton of cool world building options. I do find it weird that the factions "go to ground" in a civil war, but strong factions remain to fight in case of an invasion. I would have thought that factions are the main participants in a civil war. Or I misunderstood something ...
Really looking ahead to some games once 40k gets boring again.
