Hi all! Long time, no see and that's fully on me!

Since I last was active here a lot of things have changed.

I've moved. Twice.

Got a kid. Twice.

Got a dog. But only one! So far...

But regarding the painting, the reason for me writing. I've had a bit of a journey, last I wrote I tried to create an army of firstborns (and that wasn't a thing then...). I've continued to paint, but the amount of playing reached 0. Sure, I tried dreadfleet but that was it. So around new year 19-20 I decided to fully go for being a better painter, and that is what these first posts will show. Lately I've begun a new army, but more of that later.
I've realized that Instagram has quite a great community for mini-painters. But I miss the forum-part. I grew up with this kind of thing, and want to be a part of keeping them alive. So here I am!

Before the pics: Do ANYONE know how to change the username?

So, pics:

My lord of contagion. Basically the last thing before going for quality, and at the same time the first step. I tried to make something simple and good-looking, the problem is that the model is bland. Sure, looks good enough on itself, but a full army (got that) just looks drab.

My inquisitor. First mini on my DECLARED journey! Pleased with the result overall, and I learned loads!

More pics and posts are coming, but I'm more rusty with this than I realized...

Second post, already. Yes. But I needed some time for personal stuff and just quickly browse DakkaDakka. I will NOT revive my old threads, and after looking through some of the old pics I've realized that people was far to generous on the ratings...

But new times, and they're not 10s in coolness or paintjob, but loads better than before! Last post left of with the Inquisitor, so let's continue through memory lane:

Arjac, the first "real" marine (real in the sense of time and dedication) I painted. I really wanted to paint some SW, and after this mini I realized that I hated the colours.

A quick convertion and paintjob, just to broaden my perspective

One of my favs! A sentinel where I tried to show how nimble they really are (according to the lore) and did some more convertions. It was with this mini I realized how awesome the Blood Angels Dreadnought kit is! The barrel and claws is from there, and the smokestacks from a couple of Chimera multi-meltas!

Eldar was my first love in the hobby, and I had good intentions. IE slowly building an army of them! The plans isn't fully scrapped, but when I started with the war walker the will dissapated. Those who know will know, marine players will have to ask a comrade.
Otherwise I had this idea of combining eldar with a fire-theme, and I have some more in this aspect.

I've always loved the Wraithlord, and I knew I had to do something with it. The first idea involved a dreadnought, but that kit is so static so I felt I needed something else. Hence a Wraithlord jumping onto a Razorback, screaming "PICKABOO" seconds before plunging the sword into the side!

On insta I participated in a challange where we were choosing colours for each other, and I got purple and yellow. Couldn't work any of them togheter in a good way at first, so I tried NMM. Not a good try mind you, but it started something!

I do believe that this is enough for the moment! We're working our way to the current state, and I hope it'll be worth it for some atleast!

Yeah, very first try and loads of trial and error. Very pleased with the result, but have managed to do a couple of better minis since then!

And so I'll finish this walk through memory lane very quickly. I will NOT contine to post older and finished minis, that is for the showcase-subforum, and I should try to follow the rules somewhat.

That means another thread for finished stuff, but that's life!

So, where on the path have I ended up? I'm still painting to get better and try to get SOME showpiece-mini, but at the moment I'm actually building an army! And it's Tau! The reason for me creating an army again is that several people have told me that they're starting/restarting the hobby, and hence my will to play was awokenen. I do know Tau is weak atm and have some other issues, but I couldn't care less! I'm tired of the ridiculus minis that the Imperium offers, I can't stand the antique and horrible sculpts of eldar, I don't like spacebugs and the orks is... Well, orks!

So, trying to get a somewhat good-looking force that's quick to paint. Last time I tried something like that was with Death Guard and well... They took forever to paint and might have been well painted regarding techniques, they weren't good-looking. They were very bland.

So, to my rescue came an airbrush, zenithal highlights and contrast paints! And this is how that came to look (finished army without additional comment):

Last finished model, a broadside. Tried some OSL for the first time, and it's not fully what I wanted, but it's good enough! 2 colour-correct pics, and one where I used afterprocessing to get some grimdark feel!

And finally, to a couple of recent pics. Atm I'm mainly working with some pathfinders, testing vehicle schemes with a couple of piranhas and having an Ethereal and some kroot on the back of the que. That's not counting the drones, they're worked on every now and then.

And a bit closer to show how I put down my highlights, Not every edge, that takes forever, but rather just thos facing upwards. I do think it works well for rank and file!

That's it for now, cheers!

Wow, nice tau.
That's an awesome paint scheme, I know because it's almost the same (but better painted) as my paint scheme
I wish contrast was out when I started painting them as might of finished them... Used dry brushing for the fatigues and boy I was bad at it.
I prefer your bright piranha to the mottled one though, as even though camo makes sense for them, bright fits in with the rest of your army

My hobby ADHD, mostly Necromunda, with a splash of regular 40k...

Thanks dude! Good looks is all in the cheating, and now that I have a core I take the time to develop the scheme to be a bit smoother but more detailed with just a little more time.

And regarding the Piranha I agree, so they'll both be cleaned and getting a fresh layer of paint! I mean, the drones already have the uniform look, so no sense in making the vehicle different as you say!
