Hi all, my family are bugging me for ideas as to what I want for xmas. However I have reached that age where there isn’t much I want beyond a bit of peace and quiet, ha!
What 1 thing would you ask for (that you do or don’t already have) for xmas to make your painting more jolly?
Thanks

A) More oil paints so I can speed up my painting sessions and get more done.
B) More 3d printers so I can lessen the cost of my hobby
C) Better lighting to help an old girls eyesight

For most of my life I never asked for hobby stuff. Last year I finally snapped and asked for a few things.
When my mom asked, I admitted to wanting decent brushes. While I get decent milage out of sales-rack sables, I wanted to see what a quality brush could do. So a few W&N series 7s found their way under the tree.
Among the wishlist of small things for my office secret santa I put a new palette. Nothing fancy, but I’m no longer using old blister packs to mix flock paste or hold a sponge for decal work.
A few years ago my now-Ex got me a photo lightbox for a gift (although I think it was a birthday present) One of those things I wanted, but never would get for myself, but use all the time not that I have it. Decent ones are around $40-50, so not out of a good gift range.
These form a pattern for good gift ideas. How many things are you using not quite the right tool for the job, but it works, and is what you have? You could get the correct/better/best thing, but why pay more to replace what you got? That money could be spent on more models! But once you use the right stuff, you realize how nice it is to have. And all those years spent ad-hock jury rigging stuff could have been so much easier if you had grabbed it earlier.
Getting all the little things adds up, dollar wise. But individually they are not that much. So good to put on wish lists. Just be sure the person buying understands that for some things what you are looking for is very specific (for when that maters)
--
Personally this year the only hobby stuff I expect to get is gift cards. At this point I have pretty much everything I need.
What do you get the person who have everything?
Storage solutions,
I’d love to get a couple nice display cases. But the closest Ikea is like 200 miles away, and shipping furniture is prohibitively expensive. Like well over a hundred dollars for a $60 glass case. And I can’t find anything similar locally.

Do you use the light box just for taking photos or do you use it for painting?
Thanks for the input everyone

Just for pictures.
Although a good painting lamp/magnifier is another thing to toss on your wishlist.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Have you got a nice handle for holding the mini while you paint?
Or a bottom-heavy beer stein for painting water that’s almost impossible to knock over?
Or a variety of new flocks and tufts to make those bases really pop?
