I've been looking at starting a Craftworld Eldar army for a while now. But I was held back by the look of the older infantry minis.
With the new guardians confirmed and the leaked rules I think I'm going to go for it.

Am I alone in this regard ? Anyone else interested in starting an Eldar army as a starting or returning player ?

By the way. For those already collecting them. Any advice as to what kit might be worth/not worth picking up before the big wave of releases ? Especially taking into account the revealed/leaked models ?
Thanks in advance !

I guess the best advice for now is to either stick with the models you love which are least likely to get a refresh, or to collect a ton of everything. The craftworld range is big, and there's really no way of knowing, for example, which of the three planes will be good, or what aspect will be best. I"d say collect what you like, but for anything with heavy weapon options, even those can vary in stats and price in new editions, changing which is best suited for your army.

Kits that are unlikely to be updated, and which are buildable in only one way, aside from heavy weapons, include:
Farseer foot/jetbike
Warlock foot/jetbike
Dire Avengers
Howling Banshees
War walkers
wave serpent

I've been holding off on an Eldar army for new models for ages, but the new stuff revealed so far hasn't swung it for me yet – the Guardians are nice but the old ones really weren't bad at all for their age (bar the bare heads). I'm waiting til I can do a full Aspect Host.

I've already got a decent sized Craftworlds collection.
But I'm open to considering adding to it. Just depends upon if I like the new models well enough.

If you like the Eldar Wraith units the current Craftworlds Start Collecting isn't bad, with five Wraithguard, Farseer, War Walker and Wraithlord.

Eldar heavy weapons are pretty easy to magnetize. Recommend, as with our historically poor internal balance, what you want to use flops all over the place.

The one thing holding me back from expanding my Eldar was the lack plastics. 2022 is going to be an expensive year.

Yeah ! I love magnetizing models !

I still wonder what Craftworld I'll choose. I'll see once we know the new traits. (Or once I decide which colour scheme I prefer)

Last edition I bought Blood of the Phoenix because I had a DE army and I knew I was going to want a CWE army. The only thing I bought to augment it was a box of Dire Avengers- being plastic, I figured they were safe.

I want to lean heavily into Aspect Warriors, but it's all going to depend on how true the rumours are.

It’s odd.

There is a Ton of things that they can/need to update
We already have solid leaks showing they are doing more than many of us expected they would.
So how far will they go? Getting a giddy sense of excitement. Sky is the limit!

When a 20 something years old kit gets updated, everything is possible !

I like some of the new kits but… have had a collection of metals since they were made of lead, few plastics but for vehicles, will be interested in a new Avatar and might consider some new plastic guardians and spiders, but frankly not interested in replacing much.

I think I will be tempted into it. I won’t play the army, just collect and paint it. Purely a project. The avatar will swing it for me I think. I’m a sucker for a centre piece model.

I collected Eldar from 3rd to 5th edition and majority of my models are from that era. My painting skills have improved a lot since and I have thought of restarting the army using newer models. Inconsistent model range has put me off from doing do.

Before the recent reveals the only restart option I would have considered was wraith heavy Iyanden because I could use relatively new range of models. There is a good chance that I will start building Iyanden force while waiting for new models to hit shelves. Then again, I love new Guardians so much that I am tempted to build an Ulthwe Black Guardian heavy army instead. Either way, I'm going back to Eldar in one way or another after a long break.

I don't care about rules, I never let them affect my purchasing decisions. For me a consistent and good looking range of models is more important.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

No one expects the new guardians will be taller than the olders?

I think yes they will be just slightly taller, especially since the old ones are all kinda doing the power-squat pose to some extent.

Regarding model tips: I don't know what the rumors say about an update but I love the plastic wraithlord kit. It makes cool models out of the box and is easy to convert if you want to.

Fingers crossed that the WL’s rules won’t be hot garbage in the next codex.

I’ve built 2 of the new plastic kits, and fully agree on how much fun it is.

Unlike my old metal one, which was a royal pain.

Agreed - the plastic wraithlord (and guard) kits are awesome - some of the best kits from GW.

I did like the old one as well - major nostalgia from getting those new as a teen (I am so old) - but yeah assembly was a challenge though not quite as bad as the original war walker (I think I resorted to way too much epoxy to glue that up back then....)

I learned early to cut into the metal with the tip of a hobby knife, many many shallow cross cuts, on both surfaces, then using standard superglue, they hold like magnets and are very very difficult to separate as in the metal breaks first. Never needed a pin with that method.

One of the things I like about 9th is that it allows you to build a small detachment of each and play them solo in small games and combine them for large ones.

Anyone got a side-by-side photo of old banshees and new? That would let you know how the scale is going to work out.

The current Start Collecting boxset is a pretty good deal.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
