Been Around the Block

Question about the Space Marine Eye Lens colors...I see that different Legions used different colors for there eye lens's...what's up with that? Is there a specific reason...I know the old antage is to paint how you want to but, if someone knows a lore reason, I would love to hear it. Does anyone actually know?

There is no reason outside of using contrasting colours on paint schemes to help pick out details, for example a Blood Angel would look pretty dumb if the eyes were the same colour as everything else.

Someone, at some point, might have invented a lore reason why all the marines use lens colors that complement their armor, but it’s purely artistic.

Yep. Color theory at its best.
Shame GW never applied that to accents and company markings /shudder/. Every time they post the 'codex standard' ultramarines Force Org and get to the shoulder pads for the I-X companies, I'm forcing my gorge down. They've got the full rainbow, though they sort of smeared indigo and violet together (but people who claim to see both are probably lying anyway), plus white, black and grey.

Well in theory the company color trim applies to all codex-compliant chapters. So what doesn’t work with the Ultra’s blue might work better with another chapter’s base color. And we mostly see Ultras in the 2nd or 3rd company, which work with the blue.

I've always disliked those odd coloured trims and helmets, thought they looked like tihs as soon as GW introduced them.
In my world, the only lens colour in existence is Tamiya X1 black (the highly glossy one).

My earliest lenses were black.
Some time in 2nd edition I switched to green metallic.
Then started going over that with a green ink to add some depth.
Now I’ve replaced the green ink with the gloss green soulstone paint.
My armies are either black, blue, or red; the green works for everyone.

Since the literal eyes of my Salamanders are red, I figure the lenses are clear and you're just seeing their eyes burning thru.
