So paint keeps flaking off on the edges of my tyranids. No biggie, I can fix it.

But is it the white/boneseer/greyseer GW primer that does it? It seems to be sitting as a layer on top of the pkastic instead of bonding really with it.

I bought some brush on primer I can try. Perhaps undercoat my nids with mechanicus standar grey and then add some white on topp?

Are the GW sprays primer? Or just basecoats?

I think I have used varius up through the year. But this one is probably a white undercoat or one of the new contrast undercoats. All with spray. (I think.)

GW's new formula shouldn't be creating a "shell" of a layer that can chip off (primarily the reason why some of us on the forum refuse to call GW's primers as actual primers).

If the base layer is rubbing off, then the likely culprits are:
1. base layer wasn't allowed to dry properly before painting
2. there were some substance on the model that prevented proper contact onto plastic (i.e. oils)
3. layer was too thin and it was lifted off from moisture from the paint.

And I say people like that are primer snobs because "primer" is a very generic term that can refer to a lot of different things

I can't say I have had any problem with GW's recent spray primers, though I do wonder if they use different solvents in different countries. The ones I've bought in Oz stink to high heaven and stick extremely well to plastic (using the good ol' finger nail scratch test they seem to be tougher than the Vallejo rattle can coloured primers I've used recently).

Could be if you have oily fingers and didn't wash the models before hand, or maybe too thin of a coat of paint. I have oily fingers, so I always wash my models with a toothbrush, warm water and dish soap and then handle them with gloves until I've sprayed them.

Is it exposing the plastic when the paint rubs off, or exposing the primer?

Huh, I've never had this issue. I actually shell out the extra money for GW's spray primers because I find them that much better compared to other brands.
