Vibro Cannons can hit non-flying units automatically... what happens when they target a unit of Tau Broadsdes that are not flying, but have attached drones that do fly? Do the Vibros still auto hit or do they need to roll to hit?

First off, why would Vibro Cannons have that rule? That's just... Weird as heck. I don't get GW's reasoning.

Second off, I believe if ANY model in the unit has the FLY keyword, you'd be able to auto-hit. (Provided the Drones themselves don't have a rule saying to ignore their keywords.) I'm not totally sure, though-can you post the exact wording of the Vibro Cannon rule?

In the shooting phse if any enemy unit (excluding units that can FLY) is selected as the target of 2 or more cannons.... blah blah... the attack automatically hits.

Then its goes on if you are targeted by 3 or more cannons (unless the target unit can FLY) then you add 1 to wound roll as well.

Okay.

I read that OP reversed-if the Broadside has Drones that can FLY left, you would NOT auto-hit.

If the Broadside lacks drones, you would.

You have all the keywords of all models on the data sheet, so I think the unit can fly

My personal thought is the unit is still autohit, since the broadsides don't fly, but.... I can't find anything in the rules to assist one way or the other. So I ended up letting the vibro cannons hit my broadsides... glad that while they cleared out my drones... broadsides are extremely hard to shift in terrain :p

You don't autohit as the unit has all the keywords. It's why they had to faq about fly and movement just for drones (while missing other interactions )
