I have been looking at a ton of Iron Hands Pictures from 30k and 40k and they don't seem to wear Head Plumes or Laurels? Anyone know if this is something?

Generally they're not into 'bling', but there will be exceptions.

HH era Iron Hands seem to use a helmet stripe to denote unit leaders:
