So with the free wargear the sgt can have a pwr sword.
In the shooting phase of your turn assuming an infantry squad survived a turn you can be given the order of fix bayonets.
With the laurels of command it states to give another order to the same unit after it completes the first.
Add in the strategem consolidate squads to push lets say 2 infantry squads together.
Make the regiment catachan. Have iron hand and harker there with them.

In the end you have in the shooting phase 2 ea sgt with 2a of pwr sword hitting twice each assuming laurels went off for 8A at 4+ reroll 1s from harker to hit str 5 ap-3 dmg 1 attacks then in the fight phase 4 +2 to iron hand attacks at4+ to hit of str 5 ap-3 dmg 1 hits.

Total 14 attacks 4+ to hit with 8 getting rerol 1s. Str5 ap-3 dmg 1 all for 255 pts.

This is only for 2 infantry squads too. What if you added them to a conscrip blob amd added a psyker for mental fortitude just for kicks.

Its definitely not optimal because guards have tshirt saves and a 3t but it would be funny if a unit if assault intercessors charged a blob of infantry and the next turn were killed off by the same unit. In melee.

In the current meta, catachans - even with straken, harker and a priest nearby - hit like a wet noodle.

Vs. dedicated close combat troops, your infantry squads will be long gone before you can even consider using Fix Bayonets.

Its definitely not optimal because guards have tshirt saves and a 3t but it would be funny if a unit if assault intercessors charged a blob of infantry and the next turn were killed off by the same unit. In melee.


Those Intercessors would get 41 attacks, 27,33 hits, 18,22 wounds, 15,18 dead guardsmen.
2 guardsmen sergeants and ~3 regular guardsmen retaliate. There's no way the intercessors are "killed off".

Hell, even at max attacks (Priest and Straken for 3 attacks per Guardsmen and 4 per Sergeant) you only deal 8/9 wounds per Sarge and .25 per regular joe.
At a 20-man squad, you could charge and only deal a little over 6 wounds.

^ this. Melee should only ever be used as a backup to shooting, either to get more board control from the additional movement or kill a severely weakened unit.

For example: If somehow after shooting there's still 1 marine left on an objective, and you have a 10 man squad nearby it could be advantageous to charge them. Now you have more obsec bodies on the point, then might even kill that marine.
