Hey! Just getting back in to 40K, haven’t played since 6th but have a load of Necrons - played one 1k game which was fun (lost narrowly on points but got tabled by eldar), looking at how I could add a few more threats and resilience as points go up.
Necron 1492pt
Patrol Detachment ( 2CP - 1492pt )
Dynastic trait: Eternal Expansionist (6” pre game move + obsec)
HQ
WARLORD: Catacomb Command Barge (160) (staff of light, gauss cannon)
TRAITS: Enduring Will
RELICS: Veil of Darkness or Voltaic Staff
TROOPS
Immortals (85)
5x Immortals (gauss blaster)
Necron Warriors (247)
19x Necron Warrior (gauss reaper)
ELITES
Deathmarks (90)
5x Deathmarks
Skorpekh Destroyers (180)
4x Skorpekh Destroyer (threshers)
2x Skorpekh Destroyer (hyperphase reap-blade)
FAST ATTACK
Canoptek Scarab Swarms (105)
7x Scarab Swarm
Canoptek Wraiths (210)
6x Canoptek Wraiths (claws)
HEAVY SUPPORT
Annihilation Barge (125) (twin Tesla destructor, gauss cannon)
Lokhust Heavy Destroyers x 2 (110) (gauss destructor)
FLYER
Doom Scythe (180) (death ray, Tesla destructor)
Idea is to use models I own, plus use a variety of fun units but still have a chance of winning at a casual club.
Plan would be:
Skorpekh’s and Wraiths to charge up flanks as quickly as possible. Scarabs up the middle to tarpit.
Warriors and Command Barge follow up behind for the midfield.
Immortals hang back or strategic reserves for home objectives.
Barge, Heavy Destroyers and Doomscythe as core firepower
Deathmarks just as a psychological threat to hyperspace in wherever best.
Likely to take Engage on All Fronts and Treasures of the Aeons to capitalise on the quick movement and obsec.
Hoping it gives some scary units in the opponent’s face quickly, lots of decent firepower as a platform, then a big chunk of warriors with the command barge.
Any thoughts, finessing? Any obvious don’t takes from more experienced players? Any cool combos I’m missing? (I thought about crypteks but as I’m just relearning the rules it feels like too much to remember haha!)
Cheers!

The troops, wraits and heavy lokhusts could use information on the loadout. (Reaper > Flayer, Carbine > Blaster, destructor > exterminator)
The big losers of armor of content seem to be the Gauss Flayers/Blasters.
Maybe you want a Technomancer and a 3rd heavy lokhust?

Ah nice good shout! GW app not putting them with their shareable lists….
Edited in, generally gone for the more powerful (higher Str/AP) as I’ve got volume elsewhere.
Technomancer with the cloak and control node looks cool - tempted to cut my warrior squad to 10 and get something like that instead.
Love the idea of snipers too, but the Hexmark model looks cool and tempted to swap out the deathmarks, or at least try it at some point.
Cheers!

I don't think you can have both
I recommend 18 Skorpekhs for everyone
Wraiths and Praetorians for Fast Attack
you can get some ideas from my lates list post also

Just a few thoughts. You mentioned that you plan to use your own models, have you collected/built any of this list already?
- If you're running the Immortals in the backfield, then consider swapping to Tesla. On top of Armor of Contempt, Gauss doesn't start to outshine Tesla until they start Rapid Firing.
- You're not going to get much out of those Deathmarks. I'd suggest either maxing them out and use them as your backfield holder if you want to keep Gauss Immortals.
- Switching a 5 man unit of Deathmarks over to a Hexmark will do what you want and do it better and cheaper.
You've got the rest of the slots filled up, but I recommend finding points for a one of the Crypteks in there. A Technomancer or Chronomancer would work well with what you're taking.
If you wanted to cut something, the Doomscythe would be the first thing I'd look at cutting.

Cheers both!
@Akar - thanks! I’ve got pretty much all of those models already, apart from the destroyers (which I love the models for anyway so happy to get).
Good shout on the Immortals Tesla. Think I will go Tesla if they’re backfield as you suggest.
I think I might play around with a couple of slight variations on this core.
Eg Hexmark instead of Deathmarks
Or drop Immortals and up to 10 backfield Deathmarks
Or cut some warriors and scarabs and get a cryptek in to support the wraiths/skorpekhs
Or Drop the Doomscythe and try out some other models I have like Triarch Stalker/DDA
Hopefully get a few games in and try it all out!
Thanks again both for the input!

Ye Deathmark and Hexmark need too many elite slots.
personally I would put Immortals and cut warriors.

Had my first game with one. Greatly outshine the Deathmarks if you're going for sheer number of attacks, especially if they can remove a model.
I do not recommend doing this. Immortals are Troops so will have Obsec. You're also going to cut down your damage output. I absolutely love my Deathmarks, but I play Mephrit, so they're very different than Deathmarks in any other Dynasty.
adam304 wrote:Cut some warriors and scarabs and get a cryptek in to support the wraiths/skorpekhs
Something that helped me out was mixing the Weapons in a Warrior squad just to get a feel for the different weapons. I started running 10 flayers/10 reapers, which gave me a ton of flexibility. In smaller games, it might be nice to have the flexibility. If your opponent is going to stay at range, then remove the Reapers. If he's aggressive, then remove the Flayers. Warriors have the best built in RP mechanic with 'Number is Legion'. Smaller units are wiped much easier so you don't get to take advantage of that as much. I ended up going full Reapers, but mostly because of Mephrit. I just recommend finding your balance with Warriors before cutting them to squeeze in something else.
adam304 wrote:Or Drop the Doomscythe and try out some other models I have like Triarch Stalker/ DDA
The Doomscythe looks like it's your big Anti-Tank hitter, which is why it's hard to replace and the DDA makes sense. Triarch Stalkers work great when you have more shots and are shooting targets that infantry will also be shooting at. Just be aware of that.
Sounds like you got plenty of ideas to try out, good luck learning.
I was suggesting he remove the Deathmarks and put in a Hexmark, not run both. For what he is using the DM's for, the HM would do it better.

Thanks for checking back in! Yes I’ve thought the same, especially as the Gauntlett was part of the fun with a Hexmark but now CP is tight.
I’ve actually thought about a few changes since Nephilim etc. Dropping the warrior block and the Skorpekh’s/Wraiths down to 5 gives me loads of points to play with to add in some other fun units that are more threats or for certain roles.
I’ve added in a Technomancer, Lokhust Destroyers (don’t sound competitive but are cool!), tomb blades (for objectives). Then another min squad of Immortals to round out another patrol so I can split the scarabs in to 2 units as well (at the cost of some CP).
I lose a block of survivability, but add in more objective focussed units.
At 2k I think I’d add some Ophydians for another multi-purpose unit and some Lychguard to have that hard to shift block. And/try out blocks of warriors/ghost arks. Eventually getting a void dragon or Silent King!
The way I’ve collected is generally for the hobby side so one of each unit - so feel like I’ll try out this list then start to cut out the under-performers and build in redundancy with duplicates of the better units.

you could save another 10 points by mixing the Lokhust Heavy Destroyers with the others
2x (2+1) for 250
If you need to cut more points, cut the Plasmacytes
