Hello,

I started painting my Fenrisian Wolves with a paint brush today. I have little experience besides putting on a primer and base coat with a friends air brush on a few models.

Well today I applied primer and a base coat with a brush, but I ran into an issue. My wolves have bubbles around the model. The rest of the paint looks fine and layered well. I'm not sure what caused it, as I had thinned my paint to what some say a melted ice cream consistency and the paint was on a wet pallete. My primer is Stynylrez Grey and the base coat is Vallejo Model air Pale Blue.

I'm not sure if the bubbles were caused due to me having to shake my bottles to mix the pigment back, if I over loaded the brush, over applied, or if its because I used my tap water which I get from a well. Should I just milliput the holes and paint over or should I strip and start over? If anyone has any tips and tricks on how to stop getting bubles or how to clean up my models that would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Not that I noticed no, besides its a paint scheme I found online. Just not sure why bubbles started to show. Because it was perfectly fine when I did it on my buddies airbrush

Super strange you would get bubbles appearing when using a brush, so it sure might be some sort of paint reaction. You can try soaking the mini in Mean Green or Simple Green and use a soft toothbrush to strip and try over. I always found the base coat is better applied by airbrush or a spray paint can, just be sure to do very light coat. And, my method is to try and use the color that will be the predominant color of the mini when all painted so you are not putting too much paint over paint, but whatever process works best for you.

Did you thin the vellajo model air paint? That’s made for airbrush and so should already be thin and not need thinning for use with a brush. I haven’t used this brand of paints but that’s my understanding, so if you’ve thinned it down further that might make it bubble. Maybe some pictures would help.

I have never heard of your primer but you shouldn’t need to thin a primer as you want to apply it in one even coat.

Ok this is going to sound super weird but just trust me.

Where do you live? State wise? Yes this might be the issue.

To many unpainted models to count.

Unironically that might be your problem. Badger does put a warning on the product, that if it freezes, it can ruin the product. So if you think that it was even the least bit plausible that during transportation to your home, at any point it could have frozen even a bit, that might be the issue.
Even sitting in your mail box over night, if it got down to freezing.

When you say freezing do you mean completely frozen, or just to a certain temperature point? Because I paint in my office which doesn't get proper heating. But I used the same paint and it worked, but sat around in my office for a while. Is there any way to fix said freezing? I mean its in liquid form and was applicable, but I just started getting bubbles with stynylrez and my vallejo pale blue

Freezing.
Even if its even partly.

"F THIS PRODUCT FREEZES IT MAY BECOME UNUSABLE. DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT IF IT MAY BE EXPOSED TO EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES DURING DELIVERY. ! DOING SO IS DONE AT CUSTOMER'S OWN RISK."

Meaning if even part of it is freezing, you know like that weird point where water is just starting to freeze but is not a solid block yet, that could be ruining your primer.

I have had bubbles in paint layers if its watered-down too much and if you're too vigorous with a stiff brush,

I can't comment on the weather, we have a damp climate but not cold enough to freeze.

Those look like resin bubbles

Ah I found the pics.

I believe the fenrisian wolves are finecast (finecrap) these days. Tldr, the models came like that and it's not a paint issue so much as a model issue. You can fill the gaps with milliput or magicsculpt.

The Fenrisian Wolves listed on Games Workshop's web store are plastic:

The set includes 5 multipart plastic Fenrisian Wolves, with interchangeable heads for added variety. Each model is supplied with a Citadel 40mm Round Base.

If that's truly the case then this is just too thick of paint. He needs to strip them and try again.

Afterlooking at the pictures yeah con confrim with Freya, WAAAAYYYYYY to thick of paint. way way to thick.

You can actually see it in the second picture that arge bubble in the center just to the lower left of the ear, you can actually even see the thickness of the dry paint.

Agreed, the bubble depth is huge. Still not sure why it would bubble, temperature explanation is perhaps the issue. But I see no thin bubbles. Maybe bubbles were present in the thicker parts and collapsed whilst curing.

I do see bubbles when pouring mine into the airbrush cup, these obviously collapse when spraying. Maybe they were transferred on.

Naturally painting thin layers will resolve the issue. If bubbling is still occurring perhaps the soda can trick will help. After shaking the paint, tapping it several times may help
