Subject: New contrast paints - are they poorly branded?

I haven’t tried them but (I don’t honk they are on sale yet) but as other people have pointed out on twitter many of these new paints don’t really provide any contrast, they are more like a candy ink.
Have I miss understood or should GW have called these contrast inks? I have a feeling people will be buying them and thinking WTF am I doing wrong

From what I've seen they're more like super saturated pre thinned paints. I think they look pretty good.

One of the issues I’ve picked up from following the review is that some of them are more of what GW sells the contrast paints as then others. Most of the new ones seem to still work on the “one thick coat, which both shades and highlights” that was their main selling point. Others work closer to classic shade/washes, where they mostly slink away to the recesses, and just lightly tint the color of the min. And some are just mostly a saturated one coat cover, with minimal differentiation in the highlights/recesses.
Someone who just grabbed a bottle off the shelf and didn’t know what they were getting might be disappointed when they slapped it on a model expecting it to flow differently. Looking at the reviews it feels like it’s like they have a mix of base/layer paints without those terms, but all under the “contrast” banner.
For me, I’ve followed the reviews. I don’t care if the shading on that yellow is there or not. If you can get clean and bold coverage in one coat, I’ll pay for that.

Oh yeah I agree, one of the purples look like it’s gonna give a super vibrant base coat in one pass, which is mega, but I find it frustrating to have to watch your tube videos to find out exactly what I’m buying. GW should be better than this

Well, there are so many videos on the stuff, I’m actually getting sick of hearing about them.
Literally in the last two weeks, not a single channel I follow has put out anything else but new Contrast reviews. Whether or not some behave differently is irrelevant at this point since it’s been reiterated so many times!
Can we get back to our regularly scheduled mini painting now? I’ve heard and see more than enough of what I want to know about the new Contrast line and I’d like to see or hear about something, anything else….

Yep, as discussed in the N&R thread it's a complete failure from a marketing point of view. A customer who sees "contrast" on the paint rack has no idea what they're getting out of a particular paint until they buy it and test it on a model. And given the fact that GW's only advantage over their competition, the advantage they use as the focus of their marketing, is ease of use in the GW System it's just inexcusable. Why buy GW paints if they aren't even easy to use? Between the contrast thing and GW yet again changing or removing existing paints a lot of people seem to be learning the "never buy from GW" lesson the hard way. Maybe if you don't want to see anything about them you should, I don't know, not click on a thread clearly titled "contrast paints"?

Yeah, it's poorly marketed IMO. There's some new contrasts that seem to behave more like washes and some that behave more like inks and then some that behave more like the current range. GW would do well to somehow divide the different categories.
It's not a big deal, in the end I'm glad to have more options, just seems like a silly choice to market them that way.

I agree especially as the ones that behave more like inks would benefit from a further range expansion of they perform as well as they look.
I suppose it’s not too bad these days with YouTube etc. back when I started in second I had no access to information about how to paint especially where things like shades and glazes were concerned. It was so frustrating and put me off painting my models and I think that always in the back of my mind with GW products.
Just seen the following image of bad moon yellow, if it really does produce a yellow like this in one pass then it will be a game changer for many people especially noobs. Poor branding aside
