I’m looking at some of the basing materials they make but at £10 a pop I thought I’d ask for some general feedback about the brand as I’ve not used them before. Anyone tried their basing textures?

I haven't tried their basing products, but do have a lot of their 3rd gen acrylic paints and tools. AK is a solid company. IIRC they are founded by Vallejo?

Yup. I've used their concrete. It's decent to be fair. Lasts a long time too.

I've tested two sand textures (finer and coarser grain) on an AoS model:

I'm pretty happy with the stuff. It went on pretty well, without making much of a mess, which is important to me because of how much my hands shake. I applied both textures at the same time but found them to dry at different speeds. Good to know for layering while they're still wet. I only have this one model, so I never tried layering them one after another with ample drying time.

The dunes aren't as smooth or as tall as I'd like, the latter of which goes back to what I said above. I've bought silicone brushes in the meantime to try and get smoother results, and think that wetting the tool more might help as well, but ironically I ran out of motivation to work on fantasy models at the same time and never gave it a try.

On the color, I ended up putting a wash and light drybrush on the texture because it looked too flat for my taste.

I don't believe so and it's just a coincidence that the founders of the two companies both had the surname of 'Vallejo'.
