Subject: Ta'Unar Supremacy Armour - few questions please

Good day all,
Right, so I have been pretty restrained on my GW spending for a number of months and now I have the itch to drop some hard earned beer tokens.
Always liked the look of the Ta'Unar...but a few questions before comitting.
1) Is it even viable in the current edition?
2) Where do I find the rules and are they current edition - I am guessing the Imperial Armour compendium?
3) I like the look of the heavy rail array and 2x cyclonic ion cannons - is that a good or sub-par choice?
4) Finally...is it tarred and feathered with the FW stigma of your opponent having to agree to it being used?
Phew...any insight appreciated.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

1. It's one of the better units in IA: Compendium but that's not saying much. 2: They're in the book Imperial Armour: Compendium. The rules are for 9th Edition but the vast majority of units are severely underpowered and/or overcosted. 3: I'd go for the triple-Railgun and Ion cannons. 4: That depends entirely on your local players. Personally I think the whole mindset of "Ugh, Forge World stuff is OP" is outdated as feth. Very few units fit that description, even fewer with the IA: Compendium book. I'd love to get a Taunar for my force, but until they redo the IA book (unlikely anytime soon) it'll be an expensive paperweight not justified by its points. If you want a cool centrepiece model then go for it! If you want a tactical choice, get a couple of Stormsurges. Edit - Just noticed your comment about needing opponent's permission. That's not a thing now, and anyone who tries to pull that one is being a TFG. Regardless of how crappy their rules are, FW units are perfectly valid to use in 40k.

OK, thanks for the feedback.
Is there a specific reason why the goofy looking 3 gun thing is better?
Glad the FW stigma has been consigned to the bin.
On the Stormsurge suggestion, I really don't like that model - just personal preference. Not a WAAC player I prefer a fluffy and aesthetic army.

triple railgun :
-Concentrated 90" Heavy 2 S10 AP-4 D5
-Dispersed 72" Heavy D6 S8 AP-2 D2 Blast
Single railgun :
120" Heavy 2 S18 AP-5 D6 (melta rule)
the dispersed mode is gonna be better overall Because it gets more shots on average

regarding the FW stigma, I brought 2 Tigersharks to a 'tourney' (2 games) over the weekend. A stock one with ion cannons and missile racks, and an AX-1-0.
I was pleasantly surprised at the damage output of the heavy rail cannons.
only one got shot down.
