Oh. Well, you might, as Xbox and Netflix are talking about merging platforms.
Fun, fun, fun.
Oh. And for TV watching I just started watching Discovery. I'm only a few episodes in and beyond the odd stylistic choices for uniforms, ships, technology, Klingons, Starfleet, etc... it's not as terrible as I was led to belive.

Don’t have Netflix generally. It’s not got enough stuff I might want to watch. And it’s editorial over documentaries is harmful to society.

I've been very pleasantly surprised by the first season of Stumble. It's nominally a cheerleading show, but is far, far closer to Parks and Rec. An underfunded cheerleading group with a disgraced, but incredibly ambitious coach, attempts to build a squad and compete. The humor is solid, and they have some of the best pun names I have ever seen- honestly it's worth the entire season just for the recurring character of Kristin Chenoweth, as Coach Istiny. This is never acknowledged by the characters, and is absolutely hilarious. Typically it takes these shows a season or two to gel, but this one has wonderful whole cast chemistry already.

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.

Took the plunge on HBO Max. I figured there’s a fair amount on there I might buy season by season, so £10 for a month is probably a cost effective occasional treat.
Giving Dune Prophecy the honour of being my first foray.
I think I’ve seen it before (creepy kid getting married rings a bell), but clearly I’ve no solid memory.
It’s pretty interesting.

True Blood
The sort of show you’d think I’d have seen by now, but no.
It’s a bit camp in not quite the right way. But, given there’s lots of How’s Your Father it might be a deliberate stylistic balance.
Is good fun though. Certainly I don’t think vampire shows and movies should be taking themselves entirely seriously. That’s how you get Twilight. And Morbius.

True Blood is definitely fun for a good while but also really suffers from losing focus after it became a hit and kind of meandering in later seasons.
The best thing on HBO Max is probably Harley Quinn.

Back on Gladiators
God I love this show. Just the right level of pantomime to keep it all light hearted.
Atlasphere is much improved, as it’s now a race with the Gladiators running interference. Far more interesting than trying to land on a podium to get some points.

The Pitt, from HBO Max
I dig it, but man is it a drama/stress dump. Not sure if that's the norm with medical drama's, but it seems excessive, particularly because so much is crammed into a single work shift. I got into it when the 2nd season dropped and blew through the first season, which is probably where I f'd up. I think most episodes need a week to decompress/process, rather than a binge.
I have some quibbles with the writing, but its pretty entertaining.

Much like the excellent Mare of Easttown(also HBO), it ends a dark, violent story on somber but heartfelt notes. Everyone involved is on their A game, and Mark Ruffalo might win an award imo. The cinemtography makes me want to visit Delaware County Pennsylvania.
9/10, a little slow in places, the family drama of Ruffalo’s character kind of dragged on but it did have a powerful pay off. Overall a very good modern day cops and robbers miniseries.
Do you think there's going to be a sequel series?
Possible, but I highly doubt it. It felt like pretty much every character had some form of closure and there were no loose threads. It had the same vibe of The Night Of, Mare of Easttown, We Own This City and on and on. All are great mini-series with a self-contained story.
I think the “prestige” mini-series format is probably HBO’s current bread and butter, with the occasional pop-culture relevant ongoing series during peak viewing season(if such a thing still exists).
Well, this didn't age well, fortunately!
Mahershala Ali has been cast as a DEA agent in the 2nd season, with Mark Ruffalo returning.

Aside from every single design choice being awful aside from the ships that aren't Discovery, it's not a terrible show, it just suffers from Star Trek working best as an ensemble, and this very much being a one-person affair with the rest of the crew being entirely superfluous. I didn't even start to remember the names of most of the rest of the crew until the start of season 4.
Funnily enough, that whole 'doesn't look like Star Trek and the crew are cardboard cutouts in the background' approach was exactly what stopped me from getting through Enterprise as well.
