Only thing giving hope is it got plastic version so gw has incentive to update. If it was still resin gw would have had incentive to keep it bad.

Maybe next sm codex with spartan going there

how many months has it been since the Kratos can't be taken in a CSM army?
how many weeks has it been since CSM can't take any FW stuff?

I think I've missed something on the latter - what's the issue with CSM and FW models at the moment?

the current FW models have the <heretic astartes> keyword, not the <traitoris astartes> so if you include them, your detachment won't have a unifying keyword

have they've removed the [legion] kw from codex units
i'd think iron warriors/word bearers/etc would suffice

This leads to the first question of "why change it in the first place?", followed by "surely this was a simple enough thing to fix with an FAQ update to the IA document when the CSM update came out..."

Might be worth emailing the appropriate mailbox, if you haven't already, and asking about it.

I assume in most cases people are just using FW units as if the keywords are equivalent, for now?

yeah but to get all your rules, you need all your units to share the <traitoris astartes> keyword

already messaged them

casually : people won't care and still let you take them.
in tournaments : it's up to the TO

I dont know, thats why I ask.

If I knew the fine details about FW rules in 40K I wouldnt be making such basic questions. :(

There is some logic to what they are doing/have done.

In 8th you just had HERETIC ASTARTES and DAEMON as a keyword and it meant that once the four books (TS, DG, CSM, Daemons) were published you could do all sorts of strange things, such as use CSM strats on DG units or briefly give CSM units Daemon relics. So they had to spend a good while writing extra rules to fix some of the the issues, while leaving plenty of issues alone (relic on daemon codex unit buffing a CSM unit that is also a daemon, etc). It was generally ok because each individual book was a bit naff and only by combining the power of the four could you compete with other single books (or summon captain planet).

So they have been working to fix this in 9th and it is basically fixed now. DG have BUBONIC ASTARTES, TS have ARCANA ASTARTES, CSM have TRAITORIS ASTARTES and Daemons have LEGIONES DAEMONICA. They all variously share KHORNE, TZEENTCH, etc as well as HERETIC ASTARTES, DAEMON, DAEMON ENGINE.

But, they need to update the FW book that was written before the codexes. They've fudged the DG & TS parts, giving the DAEMON ENGINES from the FW book slightly more rules than the DAEMON ENGINES from the shiny new 9th edition codexes.

They need to give the CSM units TRAITORIS ASTARTES, but also clean up a few other things, like giving them all the Let the galaxy burn rule and removing Death to the False Emperor, working out a few <Mark of God> issues.

I imagine the issue is they are scared to make something in FW broken OP by accident. Giving something TRAITORIS ASTARTES and oops now 3 x that unit is almost an auto win because it gives you access to some buff it wasn't intended to.

I think you're completely right about why they gave all of the various Chaos factions their own faction keywords, but I believe you're kinda over thinking about why the CSM fw units haven't been updated yet. That's just par for the course for how gw has been handling fw units in 9th edition. Everyone has had to wait at least a month or so after their 9th Edition Codex was released before their fw units were updated. CSM aren't special here, they're just getting the same bad treatment as everyone else.

Yeah, lack of FW support for everyone has been pretty consistent.

But CSM went on sale 02-Jul-22 which is almost 2 months ago. So, CSM are special in being ignored that extra bit more than usual.

And the Kratos rules for loyalists were released 07-Jun-22.
