Hi my fellow dakka dakkaites. I've been searching for some advice about, well, the topics title. I've been playing a lot of Space Station Zero lately using minis of my main characters from my 40k fanfic continuity Secret War and they're Hero Forge 3d printed in resin. I glued them to 32 mm bases even thought I wanted to use 25mm bases because I wanted them on Zone Mortalis bases for extra immersion them being on a Space Station and all.

And using 32mm has made me realise all the more that 25mm will be much better in conjuction with the mantic terrain I'm mostly using.

A while back, I did take some resin minis off plastic bases using a knife and levering it but I managed to break apart one of the feet of one in the process (which luckily didn't matter as they were broken worn down robots and I can glue it to another base). So any advice to avoid this? I really do not want to destroy the feet of the minis of Attelus, Adelana, Torris, Karmen and Torris I've spent so long painting.

Thanks in advance!

So much so even the veteran Anargrin is forced into desperate speculation. But worst of all: drive him into desperate measures. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?

Do you want to preserve the base as well? One option is to take some heavier clippers and clip up the base around their feet (basically adding a base thickness to their soles). That's if the feet are VERY delicate.

Preferably, they're really nice GW Zone Mortalis bases, so, it would be good to somehow find a way to prevent the destruction of the bases, but if I have to...lol

Try freezing them, it will make the super glue brittle and much easier to break the bond without excessive force.

I think GW does make 28mm zone mortalis bases, don't they?

Yes, I just couldn't find any here in New Zealand; they seemed sold out at most places.

Is that as safe to do with resin minis as it is with plastic minis? It's just so much softer and brittle.

Thanks for the help guys!

I have never had any issues with it, just use a sharp blade, as little force as possible and patience.

Huh, this morning I took the plunge and just wiggled each mini with my fingers until they popped of their bases. No fuss, no muss. No problem, all that angst for nothing. Luckily I'd primed and painted the bases before gluing them on, that might've allowed me to do that. Thanks for the advice, though!

Gluing them to already painted bases definitely helped you.

The superglue would have only bonded to the paint layer.

Good thing I did, then! It's much easier to paint bases and the mini, I think. A lot of YouTubers do it that way when they make videos.

If not already mentioned freezing, but what i use is this.

With the chisel blade and carfully and slowly tap it between the base and glue point.

To many unpainted models to count.
