While writing up my salamanders list for their next game (annoyingly 1001 points hope my opponent is cool with that) I realised that in the arks of omen points changes a primaris captain in power armour is 80 points vs a firstborn captain being 85!? Can anyone help me understand why this may be right and balanced beyond the fact that a firstborn captain has access to a wider choice of wargear?

With the new “wargear costs are built into the base point” philosophy, it’s the option.

While you could just take him with a bolter and a chainsword, that’s not the assumption. Give him a combi melta and a relic blade, then compare him with the new guy.

Yes, it makes no sense. But it’s where we are at until 10th drops

I'm sure 10th will totally fix it...

I would not bet on a fix, but would put money on a change. GW is a fan of big sweeping changes, needed or not.

The AoO point thing really strikes me as a placeholder fix. What it settles down into next update is what worries me. But we will see.

I reckon they're going power level or a version of sooner or later. The 8th edition "streamlining" will continue even as they manage to bloat it up over and over.

which makes no sense in the context of 40k sadly.

Theyre taking the "AoS is the testing bed for 40k" meme too far if they do that
