These don't really do anything the Burst Cannon or SMS doesn't already do better. I like the concept and think Tau should have some melee capabilities but I'd never swap out the Plasma for this as it stands.

My gut says cheaper. As-is, I'd maybe consider taking one of these as the third weapon on a crisis suit for when I inevitably get caught up in melee. They'd be competing with flamers as my charge deterrant/cheap short-ranged weapon. Making them better risks making them overlap too much with flamers. Making them cheaper makes them more tempting as, "that third option you take when you've already grabbed your long-range anti-tank guns."
Dropping the price of the crisis flechettes by 5 or maybe even 10 points would also maybe tempt me to field a squad with flechettes coming out the ears. The (relatively) low cost and raw number of attacks would give such a unit a role as objective takers while the short range and and limited number of shooting attacks would keep them from overlapping too much with flamers or airburst missiles.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Or you could just look back at when Flechette Dispensers were a thing for Tau vehicles and work from there, rather than mucking about with this?
Make it a system upgrade, can't be taken if shield is taken blahblahblah.
Deals a certain amount of damage when attacked in CC.
Bam, job's a good one.

The last time Flechette Dispensers were a thing was, if I recall correctly, 7th Edition.
I don't have that Codex.

Finally, I really don't want this to be Mortal Wounds. Advanced flechette systems are certainly dangerous, but they're not "Bypass all toughness and saves" dangerous.

Because it's a defensive system, intended to be used as a close-in "scatter" weapon?
Those "domes" are the flechette dischargers from back in the day.
Finally, I really don't want this to be Mortal Wounds. Advanced flechette systems are certainly dangerous, but they're not "Bypass all toughness and saves" dangerous.
Then what's the point?
Your idea is just yet another piddly weapon except this time it can be melee too?
Having it be an alternative option to tankiness with a shield generator is far, far more interesting on suits.

Then write up your suggestion. I would like Flechette to be a weapon option. As per Wyldhunt's suggestion, I dropped the price. They're all 5 points cheaper now, so some of them are free.
