Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade

I was thinking as of late that it might be cool to have armies based around god allegiances, rather than legion names for CSM. There could, for example, be a Nurgle Daemonkin army book (let's hope the days of massive, expensive hardcover codices are over) instead of a Death Guard one, with all DG and Nurgle daemons included. There could also be a general Chaos Space Marines codex with abilities to interact and ally with daemonkin armies, with rules for other Legions and warbands as well as Disciples of Be'lakor. Other codices, like Chaos Knights and later maybe Dark Mechanicus and Slaves to Darkness/Traitor Guard could be separate but also have ways to interact with the daemonkin armies. Anyone else like this idea?

It could be done really well.
Knowing GW, it probably wouldn't be.
Part of doing it well is still letting you run the individual factions too-if I want to field Nurgle Daemons, they should be a complete army in their own right. They don't have to be top tier or anything, but they shouldn't be gimped excessively for not including Death Guard or what-have-you.

Mono-god armies of cultists, traitor Guard, CSMs and Daemons should 100% be a thing.
Less concerned about the viability of mono-god Daemon armies. It'd be nice, but the mixed-Mono-god (CSM/Guard/Daemon) army is far more importamt to me.

I agree, every faction and sub-faction should be able to stand on their own. Incidentally, before Psychic Awakening in 8th, the Death Guard was for some time quite weak and best served as an allied unit to a larger CSM army.

Chaos should definitely be very free to mix in different sub-factions. I'm really hoping that the more AOS-style tenth edition moves to game in this direction. I miss things like Greater Possessed being able to increase the strength of greater daemons, and Great Unclean Ones being able to revive Myphitic Blight Haulers.

Bloat for the Bloat God!
Having four Daemonkin books, a generic Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons, Spiky Knights, Bad Mechanicus, plus Lost and Confused is as absurd as having Codex: 100 Yellow Marines.

Ya. It should all just be in one book.

Did you see the Mono Nurgle list that reached top8 (maybe higher too) of Adepticon?
I watched it battle against chaos knights and it looked super fun.
