It's objectively the best armor mark. Therefore it needs to happen. Therefore it happens. It's hardly a mystery.

Oof. The first two new things for TOW are resin characters. That's disappointing. They look great, but I am not dealing with Foregeworld nonsense.

From the Tomb Kings perspective it doesn't bother me that the characters are resin. You can get a plastic Tomb King in the Necrosphinx kit. So at least a plastic version is already available. I'd rather if Forge World's plastic budget is limited, character models are done in resin while we get core units like new Skeletons and Ushabti in plastic. Not that we know or it is in any way guaranteed, of course.

Sucks a bit more for Bretonnian fans, I guess.

The winter timing for a new HH plastic army ties in nicely with the Winter Admech release which could mean a bunch of plastic Mechanicus stuff that can also be taken in 40k. Having Ad Mech so early is odd, but that would make more sense for bringing them forward.

Happens when there's so much awesome shown.

Nurgle lord aside, where'd you get to see awesome? I just got a bunch of roadmaps (and the AoS one was real bad) and a small grab-bag of random figures. Day 1 sapped what little energy they had, apparently. Day 2 is a vague promise that things will be better later in the year.

Would have preferred MkII or MkV myself.

I image it's because it's fitting/could be reused (with a different arm/shield sprue) if/when they decide to do Breachers..

EDIT : notice how the Phobos-pattern boltguns now have rounded foregrips ? Those would slot perfectly in a Fafnir Rann-style shield.

EDIT 2 : and knowing GW, they'll probably make a future (hypothetical) Breacher upgrade kit in resin..

The first half of Day 1 at that. The second preview was pants.

That said, I personally found the 30k one exciting, although it wasn’t especially packed.

They deliberately mentioned the eye of Horus bit at a point I wasn’t paying 100% attention, but I presume it was to say there were different options. Would be weird to just have the eye of Horus, especially when that detail has been optional on everything else.

It was mentioned in the context of the kit having multiple options, so unless it's a whole separate top piece just for the eye I imagine it'll be separate like on the vehicle accessory sprue

Fine to start with but I hope they move on and give it a wide array of factions rather than endless variants of human factions.

The resin Old World models.. hmm expected but I'm not wild about it. Nice to see though that some stuff is coming back in metal - there's a few dwarf characters I'd like to get.

Thought the AoS stuff looked great - some cracking models.

Overall I thought for the 40th anniversary of Warhammer this was a little sparse - more art, more lore chats/chats with designers, concepts would have been good and filled things out a good bit. The road maps are a very welcome addition though.

While I'm happy that we're getting MkIII, this really frustrates me as MkIV is what I'm looking to making my army out of, and now they're just going to look even more pathetic on the battlefield.

I'm still not convinced it is EPIC. It could be a new video game, card game, board game, etc.

Time will tell.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

It could also be "Apoc" rules for Horus Heresy.

I think there's enough feelers out there that GW knows Epic is on people's mind and is currently the buzz word floating around. Leaving a hint like that that isn't connected to Epic would be trolling and trolling communities is often very ill advised unless its April 1st (and even then there's limits).

Yes it could mean something else and if it does I'd hope GW wouldbe fast to release some kind of confirmation/follow-up very fast otherwise they've got weeks/months of people being convinced Epic is coming and hype building.
You do NOT want that if your actual product is something else entirely.

The video is literally called "Battle on a new scale"

The units are represented by rectangles and squares the same proportion as Epic bases

We've had rumours of HH-themed Epic for a while now, and those rumours have been accurate about other things so far

At this point if you don't think it's Epic then nothing short of them screaming "It's Epic!" while physically pointing to an Epic model is going to change your mind. GW ain't subtle.

Corporate 'mysteries' are never subtle, at least not for mass-market things like this. It's exactly as 'mysterious' as it needs to be for every last numbnut to figure it out and feel good about themselves (my go-to example: the 'mystery' about who was the baddy in the MTG set Shadows over Innistrad) - intelligent people often fall into the trap of overthinking it, or retroactively justifying their foregone conclusions by convincing themselves with complex arguments. Because they can, being intelligent makes that comparatively easy

Like how early on the only image we had of Old World was a regular 28/32mm scale square base and a few people were arguing that it was going to be Warmaster scale or how round bases would be the norm and such

People and groups of people (the mob?) can easily take limited clear info and twist and turn it when they are left with only that info. One person posts ahope; another interprets it as a theory and before you know it you've 20 pages arguing over it

The real worry is development will drag on for years and then when it comes time to actually show it off, there will just be a muddled mess.

Battle on a new scale... that could mean a lot of things. The Horus Heresy Board game getting a modern version.

Square (used in Epic 1st and 2nd edition) and Rectangles (used in Epic 3rd and 4th edition) doesn't necessarily mean Epic. Again, Horus Heresy the boardgame had square cardboard chits for units. So, not a given that it is Epic.

Rumours, we'll rumours can be wrong as they are rumours.

Edit to add.

Epic Horus Heresy will also mean 3 games in the Horus Heresy setting, one of which will be stepping all over the toes of one.

Epic never stood on the toes of Adeptus Titanicus, AT has always been much more granular and detailed than any version of Epic, doing away with things like heat management (there was an exception for the Imperator, because it was a single model)

As with most games, the fewer units that are in a battle, the more individually detailed the rules can be. AT only has a few units per side, so it can be hyperdetailed. Epic has more units, so the detail is pulled back. both can coexist - and have, every other time the two rulesets have been released

Would Horus Heresy Board Game players be interested in "battling in a new scale"? Seems like a strange thing to highlight in a teaser.

The square bases, the long stick bases, the fact that they're specifically calling out Lords of War and Titan legions... literally every single detail points to Epic 30k.

Not really. Epic doesn't compete with hh. Different people, dlfferent tastes. Gw in 2000's was idiot thinking just because they drop non-40k/fb every pound spent on other games would go to those.

They were wrong. It just meant they miss on money they could have got otherwise.
