I think the Tau, Aeldari, Deathwatch and Adeptus Mechanicus version should be clarified to read "for 0CP", but it doesn't specifically say this. I've included most of the other instances from other index rules with similar wording. There are three other army rules that match the Tau, but they are all like each other.

So, my question is this: The Puretide enhancement is 25 pts, and is it just the ability to use a Statagem twice per turn? Or is it like all the other index abilities that allow a Statagem for 0 CP cost?

Tau [pg 5]
Puretide: Once per turn, you can use a Stratagem on the bearer’s unit, even if you have already used that Stratagem on a different unit this phase.

Black Templars [pg 21]
Rites of Battle: Once per battle round, you can target one unit from your army with this ability with a Stratagem for 0CP, and can do so even if another unit from your army has already been targeted by that Stratagem this phase.

Adeptus Custodes [pg 21]
Strategic Mastery: Once per battle round, you can select one model from your army with this ability and target that model’s unit with a Stratagem for 0CP, even if that Stratagem has already been used on another unit from your army this phase.

Adeptus Mechanicus [pg 45]
Servo-skull Uplink: Once per turn, you can select this model’s unit for a Stratagem even if that Stratagem has already been used on another unit from your army this phase.

Aeldari [pg 9]
Superlative Strategist: Once per turn, you can target this model’s unit with a Stratagem even if you have already used that Stratagem on a different unit this phase.

Astra Militarum [pg 9]
Tactical Genius: Once per battle round, one unit from your army within 12" of this model can be targeted with a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted with that Stratagem this phase.

Chaos Space Marines [pg 23]
Lord of Chaos: Once per battle round, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted with a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted with that Stratagem this phase.

Deathwatch [pg 9]
Tactical Instinct: While this model is leading a unit, you can target that unit with a Stratagem even if that Stratagem has already been used on another unit from your army this phase.

Genestealer Cults [pg 39]
Battlefield Analysis: Once per turn, you can select one model or unit from your army with this ability as the target of a Stratagem for 0CP, even if you have already selected a model or unit from your army as the target of that Stratagem this phase.

Grey Knights [pg 11]
Master Strategist: Once per battle, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted by a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted by that Stratagem this phase.

Imperial knights [pg 27]
Legendary Freeblade: Once per turn, you can target this model with a Stratagem for 0CP, and can do so even if you have already targeted a different unit with that Stratagem in the same phase.

Space Marines [pg 235]
Supreme Strategist: Once per turn, you can target one friendly Adeptus Astartes unit within 12" of this model with a Stratagem for 0CP, and can do so even if another unit from your army has already been targeted with that Stratagem this phase.

Space Marines [pg *many]
Rites of Battle: Once per battle round, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted by a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted by that Stratagem this phase.

Space Wolves [pg 29]
Rites of Battle: Once per battle round, one unit from your army with this ability can be targeted with a Stratagem for 0CP, even if another unit from your army has already been targeted with that Stratagem this phase.

It reads like you need to pay CP.

Stil quite good depending on your stratagems.

Yes, "rules as written", we have agreed to play it as needing to pay CP. I think that ability is way over priced, if that is the only benefit given. I will have to wait for an Errata update to clarify the rule.

The rule is currently unambiguous. It requires you to pay as normal.

It seems very intentional.

You think for 25pts it should allow you to use free CP strats?

It seems that exact power/ability is baked into at least 10 different indexes, as I showed in the listing of abilities in the first post. Of course, in those examples, the ability is already calculated into the unit cost. So it isn't really a question of could the ability that allows you to use free CP cost strats be a possible intended ability from the GW devs, because that exact ability is already being used by 10+ races, and the ones I pointed out from 4 additional races, that don't specify the 0CP cost, should not be a "leap" in logic. [but 10E isn't about logic, is it?]

I have not done the analysis and probably won't, because I don't really care enough to do it. But my guess is, the units I listed in the first post, could be compared to other units in the same index to find the given points costs for the different abilities that GW has assigned to the units. And would that given ability be in the range of 25 pts? I don't know, but my gut tells me, yes, it would be about 25 pts.

But all of that is immaterial because as written, that is not what it says.

There is zero ambiguity and not even a hint that it was intended to be able to also use it for 0cp. None whatsoever

For 25pts, the ability to use strats more than once is quite strong in the right circumstances. The utility here is fine for 25pts.

25pts for a free CP strat a turn is ridiculously good.

What you are posting is more about wishing for more than what is provided.
