Has anyone played combat patrol? My LGS has running weekly combat patrol events and I was curious how everyone felt about the format?

It's fast and simple, it's a little wonkier than it maybe should be for some match ups but for a sample of what different factions play like it's OK.

I think it needs a little more refinement and I'd expect future boxes to be a little better shaped for lack of a better word.

Make sure you pack in the terrain though, from my experience any loss is a big loss and when somethings like doomstalkers are on the table, having some hiding spots is vital to balancing the game out.

the format is good, the principle is good - smaller forces, suitably scaled scenarios sounds good.

the execution is typically Games Workshop though, the format for the forces should be limited essentially to infantry and characters with counter infantry weapons and at best "light" vehicles

stuff like dreadnoughts etc have no place in a game this small, not all of the factions fixed lists can deal with them, and if they can its via a single unit that likely won't last long

also a good few of the boxes have no theme related to the faction, e.g. the Blood Angels box seems not in the least "Blood Angels"

Principle: A+
Execution: C-

as Dudeface notes, have a lot of line of sight blocking terrain

Good idea, typical piss poor execution. Especially in fixed loadouts rather than restricting you to the models but letting you decide their equipment. Leads to wonky bullgak like havocs with 4 different weapons.

The subset of rules is both good because it eases you into the rules, and bad because it skips important things (CSM have an icon bearer but he does literally nothing in combat patrol; he has no special rule)
