Next weekend I'm going to face the Imperial Guard. Which is fun because I like them and I've also fought them before with my buddies a few years ago on Tabletop Simulator. However, I'm not sure which of my armies I should bring. We both agreed on 1k of points. (I am still building up my forces), but I could bring an Ork list or a Chaos Daemons list comprised of the Khorne Combat Patrol, another squad of Bloodletters, and a squad of Plaguebearers. My Orks have a mix max hosposh of Boyz, Lootas, Nobz, Kommandos, buggies, Deffkoptas, Trukk, Kanz, Deffdread, and some characters and other models.

Orks I am more used too, but since the 10th launched I haven't gotten much out of their rules due to GW's paywall of their app. Chaos Daemons are simpler and they have new Shadow of the Warp rules, but the issue is I'm not used to these rules and I only have infantry, elites, and some fast attack.

Which army do you guys think I should bring? Which best counters the Guard and how?

partly comes down to "what sort of guard?" an infantry guard list is somewhat different to an armoured one

and partly down to which do you enjoy using more? by the sound of it you have more versatility with orks and likely better able to have a more mixed list that is likely going to be a more fun game

Orks vs. Guards just sounds like a lot of fun for both players. Guards wasn't in a great spot the last months, but it's jet unclear how the recent balance changes impact a guard list (a lot got cheaper, indirect fire got more expensive).

As a guard player (well, collector, my last guard game was in 8th edition) I would prefer facing Orks, because I feel it would be a fair match with interesting decisions. Against demons, it's really a matter of screening close combat and drip feeding unit after unit into the grinder, which sounds less fun.

Is your opponent more of a narrative or competitive type?

I don't know exactly because the store I go to is an hour away. However, from some recon and scouting in the past I feel like they'll bring Russes, Chimera's, and Manticores from my past observations.

Well I love my Orks ever since I got into DOW 2012. I just have rather bad luck with them and their +5 BS across the board. Orks allow me to shoot back, (and mostly miss), plus they're already in my tub and painted ready to go.

Chaos Daemons had a cool Shadow of the Warp mechanic and all that new rules I wanted to try out, but I only have Khorne models and a squad of plaguebearers to sit on objectives. My plan was to go Orks all up until October and play daemons to be sp00ky for Halloween (I'm in the United States). But, I have no greater daemons or magisters.

I normally run Orks, but I feel my local gaming store got bored of me using them.

Yeah, that's one issue with me I am worried about, ranged artillery. I know it's the Guard's thing and I have actually played them before on TTS with my friend's in my Discord server. But I know my backline are going to be pounded by their artillery. The gambit is if I can get into melee with either army before getting shot up in the game. Dice gods willing.

Yeah, with my Orks I do have 'some' models that can take cover such as my Kommandos and I do like deep striking my Deffkoptas to take care of their Manticore batteries. Still, the issue is the +5 BS and I'm worried about Lemen Russes as I don't have much AP other than my Shokkjump, Mega-armored boss, and some rokkits on my kanz and dread. Plus, my walkers tend to die very early in the game.

With daemon's it's mostly because I haven't played them this edition, I hear they have new and interesting rules, and of course it's soon to be October which means Halloween in the USA and thus I wanted to run a supernatural army. However, I have no greater daemons and I only have the Khorne combat patrol, another squad of bloodletters, and some plaguebearers atm.

Oh I'm very narrative focused, hence why I play Orks and Chaos Daemons. I love fluff and lore, but sadly a lot of people at my gaming store are very competitive and that's a bit of an issue as I'm a casual guy.

Orks. Orks are always more fun.

Then again if your opponent is fairly friendly. tell him you want to give the demons a go... and is he cool with "learning here...."

For me play what you find looks the coolest or give you the most joy to field. But to draw attention to the above it's not been paywalled long at all, it was free for over 2 months and the rules are free as PDF's anyway on the community site.

The correct answer is orks. What wus da question?

More seriously, pretty much all the stuff you have works reasonably well besides maybe the buggies. You should be able to build a functional army from that.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
