It's perfectly normal for you to place an order and be charged at that point, the refund process is usually far better with GW than you have experienced. I would think that if you were able to place an order with the item in stock, then they should have the allocation for the orders sold. Once it's set to out of stock you can't order it for this reason, which suggests that process is failing.

The stock issues are actually quite frightening at the moment, I was in Warhammer World in August and the shelves were practically bare in some places and massive gaps in available stock for some units and that's as good as attached to the factory.

Sounds like a series of unfortunate events that isn't the norm.

But I strongly suggest finding an online retailer with discount and live stock levels. There's a few that carry Direct Only stuff.

I would love to find a retailer and buy from them, but nobody have the haruspexes for sale.
