Morally-Flexible Malleus Hearing Whispers

Recently started to read "The Emperor's Gift" which is I think a book about Grey Knights, and so far a few questions:
1. Is there a word for what Hyperion is? A GK that uses just a pistol and his SB, but no melee in combat?
2. When did GK / SW get to be on goodish terms? I thought the SW were on "kill on sight" orders by Grimnar of any Inquisition/GK.
3. What is "the sending"? Since when can GK go Spirit Ghost and just "explore the entire ship"?
4. Since when are GK subservient to inquisitors? Deferential I understand, but taking direct commands from a mortal inquisitor seems....wrong. If the commander of a squad of GK says no, not even a high lord can "order" them, but I'm very likely wrong, or thinking of Custodes. I thought GK were basically a single step down from Custodes.

1) Hyperion in terms of what weapons he uses is just himself. A character in the books.
2) TL DR is Bjorn convinced Grimnar to come to an agreement with the Inquisition at the end of the conflict. Namely because it was dumb for the Imperial forces to be fighting each other.
3) While Grey Knights have their psyker rules simplfied, the truth is each GK is their own unique psyker. While they train to work together, nothing prevents individual GKs from honing unique abilties.
4) Inquisitors are technically imbued with absolute authority over everyone in the Imperium, Space Marines included. The Grey Knights aren't an exception, though if they disagreed there wouldn't be much an Inquisitor could do about it. But a middle ranking Grey Knight might still feel compelled to follow orders from an Inquisitor even if he doesn't want to. Inquisitors are going to be much more qualified than a Justicar to make command decisions generally speaking. I would say you'd need to be Brother Captain rank before you could really be considered on equal command ground to an Inquisitor in a general sense.
And you have to consider that if a squad of Grey Knights are working with an Inquisitor, they almost certainly got sent to work for him specifically. Its not a chance meeting of equals working together for a common goal. Its not like Grey Knights do investigative stuff, they're the kill team once a situation has been uncovered. They'll be going in somewhere with Inquisition support and at the behest of someone either in the Inquisition OR under orders from a higher-up in the chapter to purge a specific location.
So if there is an Inquisitor involved, the Grey Knights will definitely be under the command of the Inquisitor if none of the Brother Captains are present.

@Grey Templar: you might want to spoiler tag your answer to Q2

Just to answer a couple:
2) The Emperor’s Gift is the story of *why* the Space Wolves and the Inquisition/ GK hate each other, the start of that story is before they fell out. Keep reading to find out more.
4) Back in the day the Lore was that because GK were the ‘Chamber Militant’ of the Ordo Malleus they were fully subservient to that branch of the Inquisition (ditto with Deathwatch and Ordo Xenos). Emperor’s Gift was written around the time the lore changed to make them more independent, but still has some shades of the old lore.
That said there is still a relationship between GK and OM, so an OM Inquisitor can still directly request GK support and, as Grey Templar, says there will still be circumstances where the inquisition will have operational control.

Hyperion is now a prognosticator
Automatically Appended Next Post: Gk and sw reconciled after the months of shame after 1st war of armageddon. Automatically Appended Next Post: Grey knights are the order militant of the ordo malleus. Therefore even a junior inquusitor can enlist the aid of the grey knights if necessary.

So....I was more referring to the falling out after the whole Prospero incident, and the Inquisitor actually picking a fight with Grimnar, and three of his wolf guard (Terminator friends I think). Anyway, Grimnar decapitates two people before they even see him move, and then the terminators went on to declare them excomunicatus. This book seems like they've made up since then. Fine. But it seems odd that even a very young grey knight would be ignorant of the enmity between their chapters, seems a stretch. Also, this book makes me completely hate GK and the Inquisition so thats a plus. The whole "Lets murder 1.8 billion innocents thing..."

The inquisition see the cleansing of any person who has come into contact with daemons as a necessary sacrifice to protect the widrr population from daemonic possession. Once exposed to daemons normal humans are more prone to possession than space marines. Hence the policy of liquidating regiments of guard who face daemons but mind wiping marines Automatically Appended Next Post: Also remember that the first war for armageddon occurred over 300 years before current 42k timeline so many of thr current grey knights abd inquisitors havr little or no knowledge of why the space wolves distrust the gk

NB this book is set *during and immediately after* the first war for Armageddon.
.
The SW’s extreme mutual dislike of the Inquisition/ GK isn’t a thing at the start and the whole main conflict of the book comes about due to the SW trying to stop the Inquisition’s liquidation of the populace post First War, leading to them trying to purge the SW.
The climax of the book involves some circumstances that cause the Inquisition/ GK to back off, but still with a lot of mutual dislike/distrust as per the contemporary setting.
The book is essentially a prequel that explains where that feud comes from, which is why none of the characters act in line with it at the start (because it doesn’t exist until the middle of the book).
Although interestingly

Well
Prospero is a Heresy thing, long before GK or Inquisition exist. It has nothing to do with the feud with the SW which is caused by actions after Angron’s invasion of Armageddon.
You can read about how that goes down in The Emperor’s Gift…
