I think I have finally figured out what looks off about the Helsmiths models: They don't have mustaches with their beards. I can't unsee it now.

Some do, some don't by the looks of it.

I don't necessarily have a preference, I just couldn't figure out why they looked sort of "off"

No, just the one, just the Helforge Host that is formed from the army set.

Incidentally, put the models together last night and, I have to say, they were an absolute joy to do. Everything 'clicks' together very well, there are next to no 'fiddly' bits - infantry (including the Hero) are typically only 5 or 6 different pieces. Lightning fast to put together.

The Dominator and Tormentor have more parts, obviously, but nothing taxing. Likely looking at something around a 20 minute build for each, a little over half an hour for all the infantry.

Thumbs up on that aspect!

Okay how posable are they? So meaning can you only put them in pre-defined poses together?

Yeah, not complete awesome on that front.

The Despot is absolutely a single build.

The troops... well, they all have options (heads, shields, spears or swords), a little posability in the angle of the arms and shields because of the way they go on, though they are supposed to fit just one way.

With the big Dominator you could actually do 3, maybe 4, models without them looking too samey.

However, not massively awesome on the posability front for anything. However, the infantry are 'general' enough that you could probably have 40 or 60 of them on the table and they would look more 'regimented' rather than photocopied, if you get my meaning. And you at least won't mind building that many, you will be through them in a flash.

And it's gone on the main site. Always confuses the hell out of me when it sells out there at full price, but the discounters still have stock in.

Even with GW main site sales down, a lot of people still feel safe buying from the official place instead of "unknown 3rd parties"

Also there are a lot more discounters out there, enough that not everyone will know all of them, so you almost always have a chance to stumble on the one shop that only sold two of their three allocated units because the audience of that one skews toward a different game.

Fair, just seems odd to me to go direct and pay more as the first choice.

I imagine because of a multitude of cases where third party store allotments fell short of interest in the past, many people see third party stores as a risk even if they offer better prices. Between that and giving you an exactish time when pre.orders start, I'm sure GW's online store has plenty of appeal.

I've had the experience of deciding to buy from a 3rd party vendor and save 10% only to wait.... and wait... and wait...

I eventually found out that they had taken more orders than their stock allowed and were not going to tell us.

Events like this ha e made me gunshy when pre-ordering new stuff.

Honestly a lot of the UK 3rd party online stores are pretty good now at having live inventory. The only times it can break down are during exceptional situations like a 40K new edition launch.

And honestly don't blame the stores then because its bonkers demand on their systems; plus again most will resolve issues like double-charging if they happen.

Buying direct from GW has always been slower than 3rd party stores for me. Only things to buy from GW therefore are FW stuff other Shops don't want to sell or the occasional direct only stuff where the 6-8% you get elsewhere amount to hardly more than 2€.

And I missed the window in the US.

Don't worry about it, they seem to have gotten into a habit of holding stock back for a second wave. That new kill team box is sitting on the UK site currently after being sold out the first time.

That Minotaur Automata reminds me of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

They dont hold back for a second wave, its excess inventory that they are holding for replacement and damages, etc. After a period, whatever is left over after claims are processed gets released for sale. A portion of it is also apparently stuff that they hold for sale at the warhammer world store and certain other key shops (battle bunkers? They still exist?). Anything excess sitting on shelves after a while gets put online so that they can blow out the unsold inventory.

It probably includes people who preordered with multiple stores as a hedge against stock shortages then cancelled all but the cheapest one that actually went through.

While it sucks for folks who didn’t get the product, its always a good sign when it sells out. Wonder how much overlap there was with folks using it for ToW/Legacy WHFB.

I was hoping that the Dominator Engine would grow on me, but its not working for me so far. I think if it was a bit less stocky, I’d like it better. I don’t hate it, but I’m having trouble picturing it move.

it doesn't look like TOW fans were anything more than an absolute minority of the buyers of the box from what I can see browsing socials (facebook, reddit, various forums). I've found very few posts (actually none at all) of anyone indicating they bought one for TOW. Not even really seeing any posts from last week about people getting ready for the preorder.

Its a bit odd, as I had seen quite a few people post that they would be using these minis for TOW when they first previewed them, but Im not seeing the follow through at the moment.
