They don't necessarily want all the stuff in this box (useless cards and army book, big bull golem having no TOW equivalent) and may just be waiting for individual unit boxes.

Just bluster. The same people yelled the same for the skaven, but I've seen barely a handful of that in over a year.

I thought they were going to be played in the old editions. And if that's the case, then surely it's the same outcome for CD.

Building a skaven army is a huge hassle, it takes dedication. I bet the ammount of people that want to buy and build a skaven army for a rank and flank game, or think it would be cool to have one, is way more people than would actually go through with the project.

Chaos dwarfs on the other hand would be a much more reasonable project for most people.

This ^. GW made it clear that this set is just the same as the upcoming starter box, just with the added cost because of the FOMO box, LE book, and cards (even the AoS cards will be outdated by the time the individual release gets here). Anyone that wants these for CD are better off waiting for the new set in a couple of months and not paying the markup.

Its also on just gone on pre-order. Very few people are going to have their hands on the models for a couple of weeks at the earliest except for 'influencers' who are generally going to be aiming to push the models for AoS so they keep getting their GW freebies for the game. It would be weeks, possible months, before they really start showing up in numbers on old world tables.

That was a very known known at the time that the Skaventide box was announced.

it doesn't look like TOW fans were anything more than an absolute minority of the buyers of the box from what I can see browsing socials (facebook, reddit, various forums). I've found very few posts (actually none at all) of anyone indicating they bought one for TOW. Not even really seeing any posts from last week about people getting ready for the preorder.

Its a bit odd, as I had seen quite a few people post that they would be using these minis for TOW when they first previewed them, but Im not seeing the follow through at the moment.

Theoretical: if I wanted the models for TOW, I would wait for the Spearhead box. Right now I would have to pay for a premium army book I have no interest in. The Spearhead is out in a few weeks for a lot less, without the book I do not want.

Practical: I personally do not want to buy these for TOW anyway.

Use it as an Iron Daemon. Not only does it literally look like the name, the ID conveniently has two loadouts, one with cannon and one with smashy punchy gubbins. Plus the model will look even more badass converted with a chain harness for hauling gun carriages.
