I learned my lesson after regretting not jumping on the Don't Look Back 2e preorder. I'm going in for the digital tier + print book.

I've been following This is Not a Test since their first Kickstarter. Hopefully with this edition, I'll finally get a chance to convince someone to play with me. If not, I'll hack in Stargrave or Five Parsecs AI and play solo, dammit.

I'm pretty sure this has all of the 1st edition rules/expansions including the solo vs AI play.

I asked, and they said solo rules weren't included in the corebook for this preorder.

Also, have you looked at the 1e solo rules? They're a nightmare PDF of flowcharts!

That's unfortunante but maybe for the best if 1st edition rules for it are a mess. Means I likely won't get this then.

When I was looking into getting TINAT 1st or FWW I could find very little info about solo play vs FWW solo/ai which had a lot of reviews (plus I liked Call to Arms) so I got FWW instead.

The TNT 1e solo rules are still up and free, if you'd like to look yourself. They dropped during the pandemic lockdown, and I mainly remember looking at them and seeing pages of flowcharts and noping out. The store page suggests a simpler set of rules, but I don't remember what they are.

https://worldsendpublishing.com/products/copy-of-this-is-not-a-test-demo-rules

I can't go back and look again at the moment, so I'd advise looking them over yourself rather than relying on my memory if that's your make-or-break on pre-ordering this edition. The lesson I learned from the Don't Look Back 2e pre-order is that the digital tiers may be the only chance to get some of the stuff in STL. I seem to recall you 3D print some stuff for Fallout, so that might be a factor for you, as well.

Who's got the old miniatures?

You lost the charm when you sold it to Blacksite, and that ridiculous price for some one off STL's. Congratulations on making it to Second edition, though.

I'll take a little more time to try to get it to grow on me, but I could really use more of those old school 'Pocy-lips mini's.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I don't think Blacksite owns it. I was chatting with one of their people, about possible expansions and reworked AI, and it sounds like they're just the publisher and make the minis but Joey still own the game. But ya, Blacksites digital bundles are always pretty pricy in these crowdfunders of theirs.

Ya I might do this. I do like the newer miniature aesthetics more then the originals which were a bit too cartoony for my tastes.

Played a campaign of first edition, it was very deadly, there's no save or injury roll, so the moment you are wounded, you are out. I hope this is changed in 2nd.

Fans of post-apoc minis in 1995 GW style with a Fallout vibe should check out "Imitation of Life" on Myminifactory, they sculpt specifically with TNT in mind.

This is Not a Test is not written by the DLB folks but by one Joey McGuire. Black Site Studios, the creators of DLB, are publishing the 2nd Edition of TNT.

For anyone not familiar with This Is Not A Test (TNT) first edition: It's a post-apocalypse (the more fantastic sort, with lots of Fallout-like elements, as well as mutants with tentacles, eyestalks, etc) skirmish warband game with alternating activation and a classic Necromunda/Mordheim style campaign system. It was decently popular in the mid-to-late 2010's, especially on Lead Adventure, for Fallout-type wargaming before Modiphius picked up the license. First edition is written and created by Joey McGuire of World's End Publishing (https://worldsendpublishing.com/) with a large amount of digital publishing supplements, and the second edition is being published by Black Site Studios but is also written by Joey McGuire.

Here's a link to the Black Site Studios 'about' page, with a brief overview of the second edition, with a more detailed explanation of what is changing/improving for the second edition by the writer/creator:

https://blacksitestudio.com/pages/tnt-about

Hope that helps.

Also: I did find time over the weekend to skim the free "Going It Alone" solo rules for first edition. As I remembered, they're fairly clunky, with a roll with modifiers on a chart to determine a model's disposition for the turn, then your choice of two methods: Use a set of per-disposition guidelines to determine yourself what the model should do in its situation, or run through a full-page flowchart of options for that disposition.

If there's no revised solo rules provided for the new edition, I'll likely just hack the disposition rules from Five Parsecs from Home to match the TNT 2e system, assign dispositions to AI models, then use the Five Parsecs solo system. It's a bit extra work, but will likely provide a more elegant play experience for me.

They have broken the 200 books sold mark, which means another unlock. 5 new bases for those tiers.

I've gone into the Digital tier as I will print almost everything myself, but that means 5 .stl files for the bases.

One thing I noticed, which may or may not be the case. When I signed up for the digital tier the books sold (the metric for all the unlocks) did not go up. I am not sure if they just update every hour or if it is an immediate change to the numbers. If it is immediate, then I am not sure if the digital tier helps unlock items. I will eventually get a physical book, but I'd rather get the digital files and book as I have access to a color printer and 3D printers. Also no shipping costs I got burned bad by Battletech.

About 3 days left in the Backroom campaign, closes Friday. Just hit 302 books sold, so the 300 unlock of better quality paper and bookmark ribbon have been reached. Next unlock is at 350 with a free wasteland companion model for tiers II, III and the Digital tier. The last couple days have seen more jumping on per day, so I think 350 is possible. 400 Books unlocks a physical art print of the book cover for Tiers II and III.

Missed the pre-order, damn. I was thinking of getting back into the Necromunda setting, and started looking at these rules as an alternative to GW's.

Earlier in the thread someone said that this new edition will include previously released expansions. However the description of the 2nd edition book on the Black Site Studio webpage to me implies that those aren't being included. That page only describes 6 warbands for instance. Which to me says either they aren't included (in which case would the 1st edition supplements remain compatible, like Frostgrave did), or they're including some things, but making other bits obsolete. If its the later that'd be a real shame.

Bit weird for the page not to have a statement about how they're handling the supplements. Has that been clarified somewhere, or is there an official way to ask the creator? Certainly if the supplements aren't included then the £47 asking price seems a bit high (plus £18 shipping to the UK), even for a physical release of an indie rulebook.

Edit: Watching an AMA from the creator, the 2nd edition book doesn't include the 1st edition supplements. They're going to put out a patch document for using them in second edition in the short term, and possibly rewrite some content like the robot stuff.

I honestly didn't find it particularly good as a Necromunda replacement. The book is dripping with flavour, but the gameplay felt too lethal to me (there are no saves, no injury roll, mostly 1 Wound models... so you're mostly just either fine, or dead, with nothing in between). Even One Page Rules Firefight has more states a model can be in, while having about 6 stats less to keep track of.

I was looking at it as a Necromunda replacement based on the variety of models a gang can have, and that there's plenty of wargear too. Other systems I'd considered tended to have only a handful of either. And there's plenty of supplements too which is a bonus. We've been using Stargrave so far, but I'm just trying to see what else is out there. ...I've had the 1st edition rules for ages, just never actually played a game of This is not a Test.

I haven't played it yet, but that is a selling point for me. Our game time for get togethers is so much smaller now, like my attention span. Having a game drag on for hours is a no-go. It's why we transitioned to ASOIAF for bigger battles, even then we were running out the door after the battle ended. Quick and dirty, and if you get a second game in (or replay it if something went really bad really quick) it's a bonus.

Waiting on the rules .PDF and printing models in the mean time.
