I've found Beast of Nurgle to actually be quite strong, Slimux is a pretty decent character too. I feel like you could cut the Feculent Gnarlmaw and a few small things to fit at least one unit in. They hit reasonably hard and take a lot of firepower to down.

I'm debating investing in some, but this list is models I actually own right now.

So how does the list perform as is? I might acutally have everything but the plague drones and how good are those? Would spawn or um.... beasts of nurgle work just as well?

Spawn wouldn't perform well, as they can't be taken at all in this list.
Beasts of Nurgle are slower than Drones, but chonkier. I think they'd serve a different purpose.

The Drones are nice! Death's Heads marking something for death is hella useful, and OC 2 on (relatively) speedy durable bodies is always handy.
I've seen victory consistently with this list, though I only play casually.

I second JNA's assessment of those units.

The Plague Drones are Nurgle's only fast non Daemon Prince unit, so if you want to contest the midfield before your lumbering plaguebearers arrive, that's really the way to go. Though their save isn't great at 5+, T8 W5 is still reasonably hard to chew through even on only 3 bodies. After that they can spend the game skirmishing and marking targets for your other units to hit harder against.

As for the bests of Nurgle, it's pretty easy for a pair of them to just sit on an objective and never die unless a reasonable amount of anti-tank fire gets poured into them. It can also really mess with your opponent's math, if they get a model down to 1 or 2, then might commit more firepower to it than they otherwise would have, just to make sure it doesn't get back up. They can very much be the distraction carnifex of the list if used right. With the character it's interesting to, though it's more situational. Any piece of area terrain they end their turn in is permanently in your shadow of Chaos.
