The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar
|
Dress For Success - Models with extravagant, over-the-top, or just plain fabulous outfits and/or accoutrements. Break out the fancy hats with feathers, poofy sleeves, and ball gowns. Or blinged-out power armor. People should know at a glance you are a rising star, or have already archived the highest positions. Your entry should be dressed for victory in whatever field they are on, be it the battle field or in court.
Beep Boop - Villains who are more machine than man, or your plastic pal who's fun to be with (unless he's feeling very depressed). Doesn't have to be bleeding-edge quantum computing in a body made from pure unobtainium, to our distant descendants on feral worlds clockwork and a steam engine could've been enough to turn a hunk of scrap into a metal beast. Robots, cyborgs, labour-saving devices or smart weapons. While the title is “Beep Boop” this extends to any non-biological lifeforms - genies, elementals, not-undead spirits, living goo, etc for those of a more fantasy bent.
Absolute Unit - Some things are just Bigger than others. Entries should be larger than their peers. Giant tanks, big bruisers, or even the roughest little fey in the fairy circle. Or it could just be part of the model. Swords longer the the wielder is tall, or hammers bigger than the torso of the guy/gal swinging it. Sometimes size does matter.
The Last Drop - This one is a little more abstract and open to interpretation. Drop of liquid? Supply drop? Drop from orbit? What is the last drop and why is it important? Empty wine bottle for a drunkard, vampires drained victim? Last drop of courage, or the bitter dregs of fate? Needed supplies floating down to besieged defenders? Loyalists on their way to Isstvan V? Take the topic and run with it, and let's see what we get!
Poll will run for 3 days

Voted for Absolute Unit as I've got several things that would qualify, but I think I could figure something out for all of them.
Dress For Success: I've got several Space Marine characters with plenty of bling, or I might actually go with my Inner Circle Companions (who wear robes over their armor and are therefore dressed for success).
Beep Boop: The more I think about this one, the more I realize that I might straight up not have anything that qualifies. Actually scratch that, I could enter Bishop from Aliens: Another Glorious Day In The Corps (he's in one of the expansions). Or Ennox Sorlock, the Iron Hands guy in the Deathwatch Kill Team Cassius.
Absolute Unit: I'd probably enter some Stormcast Eternals Annihilators, as those guys are big thiccums. Or maybe I'd do the Kruleboyz Breakaboss on his big Mirebrute Troggoth.
The Last Drop: This one I'd be needing to think about. Lots of ways I could probably go with it, so I'll have something, I'm sure.

Voted for Dress for success, I've got a lot of foot knights and beplumed troopers ready for some conversion, seems like a nice kick to do them. Absolute Unit I'd probably break the no-GW streak and do a warlord titan.
Others...I could probably find something, but it'd be a bit of a head scratcher...

Any of the first three would suit me, but Dress For Success sounds like too much of a gimme for Emperor's Children, and Absolute Unit would be too tempting to convert a legionary with their absolute unit hanging out (again), so I played it safe with Beep Boop since it was my idea after all. I picked up a Castellan last week and there's a Slaaneshi Castellan colour scheme in the Book of the Astronomican that I'm keen to bring back.

I picked dress for success, want to keep it simple coming month or I won't be able to finish my centerpiece challenge I'm already struggling with.
beepboop I wouldn't have good potentials for except for some Orky things that are way too big to fit into the month (morka/gorka naut :/ )

Would a Clade Vanus assassin be appropriate for Beep Boop? She might not be mechanical herself (though, maybe she is? It's difficult to tell..), but I hope there's enough whizzy circuitry in her helmet and wargear to qualify? Plus her three servo skulls, too...

Not familiar with the model, but anything with servo skulls should be good. They do a lot of beep/booping.

I voted 'Absolute Unit', as I have loads for that! Although 'The Last Drop' would be good too, as I've got a Halo dropship that needs painting...
'Beep Boop' and 'Dressed for Success' don't really appeal to me at all, TBH. Don't think I have anything to fit those... I'll have a dig through the shame pile.

If my math is right, that’s time for the poll, Beep Boop for August.
This was the second chance for Dressed. So it can go back onto the list for later. Unit was a distant 3rd. It might get a shot for Sep, or we might get a fresh batch. We’ll see.

I can't find anything robot/cyborg-like in my pile, and no elementals or stuff like that, unfortunately. I'll keep digging through the minis backlog, but it's mostly historicals and fantasy, so I reckon I'll probably be sitting this one out.
Quick edit: I'm sure I've got a box of Ork stuff somewhere... there MUST be something cyborgy in there, surely! I'll see if I can find it.

I had a lot of trepidation including it. It’s probably one of the more subject restrictive topics we’ve had. But there seemed like there was a decent amount of enthusiasm behind it, so I put it up. Don’t get too focused on the name. The full description adds more options.
I’m planning on painting a pair of teleport homers. Hopefully when it goes life people can take inspiration from each other if they are having trouble with ideas.

Techmarines would be better. Or Iron Hands. Or vehicles. Or with obvious cybernetics.
But if you want to pitch a stock SM as your entry, it could probably be done.

Since golems were discussed, if you have some XPS foam, a glue gun, and maybe some pebbles, you could probably slap together an earth elemental pretty easily.

I think I am going to skip this one or I won't be able to finish the centerpiece challenge, have had a tough week.. exhausted for 4 days (still a bit tired) and august is going to be very problematic in terms of work etc. It will be a miracle if I can finish the centerpiece alone, I won't be able to do two challenges.

Thanks for the suggestion, but none of the games/projects I have need elementals, unfortunately. Plus, I'm really using the painting challenge as a way to work on stuff I've already bought and just not gotten around to yet. If I start making new stuff, I'll never catch up on my backlog!
