So my gaming group convinced me to run a Dred Mob of sorts as I have a Morkanaut, a squad of Killa Kanz, and a Deff Dred. I got a Big Mek from the store today, but I'm curious what is the best ranged weapon to give them? It has either that Traktor Blasta that is 'safer' to fire and has a longer range. However, it's only one shot and I don't encounter much aircraft in the game. The second option is the Kustom Mega Blasta which fires three shots, but also has the Hazardous keyword. I tend to go for hazard tests in game with my Morknaut and with the "Try Dat Buittion" rule, but I also want to assign it to my Lootas so I worry when he blows up he'll take his squad with him.

Which is the best ranged loadout for the Big Mek in this case? I'm fine with some exploding units, but the Traktor beam seems safer to play. However, it's only one shot and I worry with that Orky +5 BS skill it maybe useless most of the game. Any suggestions?

Curious as to why as it appears the Traktor beam's stats seem superior, other than it's one shot?

With a 5+ BS, 3 attacks means you have a reasonable chance of hitting at least once each time you fire. Slightly better stats are meaningless when you should expect to miss when you fire the Traktor blasta.

Because I prefer to shoot more than once in a 5 turn game.
