So its been the thing us mechanicum players were waiting for since the start of the horus heresy and there was much fanfare from the GW side in the run-up to its release and now it has been released...

Its almost like the censure of the 2nd and 11th legions in here

Is the book really that bad?

Hardly like Heresy is very big on this forum, it's not like B&C used to be (maybe still is haven't used it in a long while).

Welllll....

The actual ammount of is rather thin and it is basically "Dark Mech the toys" cept the toys were already released and a mission system that we already got. Meaning that we got 20 pages of actual content for the core game.
Disapointingly, the core issue is daemonengines, however those well weren't good in the first release as a PDF and got nothing new nor improvement.
The Dark mech school are nice and there's certainly some trait and proscribed combinations that will be amazing, however since it's basically like the core mechanicum book, it's basically an excercise of minute attention to get a combination going. Add to that , that they are too limitedly available and don't mix up the forces too much and the book is basically a sidegrade instead of fixing darkmech or the issues mechanicum had.,,,

How about the fluff/lore?
Is it a decent source book?

B&C has more Heresy-related activity than here (I go there fairly frequently but can't post because their registration system doesn't work for me). It's a bit frustrating that we don't have more going on here, as there are obviously quite a few members with a lot of Heresy experience.

It's okay, far too marine centric for the martian civil war, but they atleast attempted to unfuck the lore for the Decimator and other daemonengines appearing, went into the coup and organisation.
It's an alright book on that front.

Nice. A strontium 90 lining.
I would have preferred keeping the old FW chaos engines for M32-ish and generate some new models/units that show the halfway house stage between initial corruption and soulgrinder, but i wonder if this book is GW just accepting they cant do mechanicum fluff/crunch properly and let us do the Schizm justice with homebrew campains
