News about rather cheap board games with usually good value will only appear on the US English and German page, as you can't buy them in the UK.

I wonder who the heck comes up with the logic for these GW sites?

As I go to the Warcom site, the usual GW 'where are you located' pops up. I tell it, I'm in the UK, which it should know, because it already has me logged in to my account. It then takes me to the site for news, and pops up a notification to tell me there's a new news article in German.

I mean ffs. Who programmed the logical order of this?

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

Haha, I remember the official GW boards way back in the day. Man that takes me back. Perhaps that's why I don't mind the new SG, I'm so old they never used to have wings and were painted red. And had a different name. Oi, now get off my lawn.

I'd like to take this chance and remind people of the "old" GW page. Here is a snapshot 2008 of the German GW page. You will find unbelievable things like:

- download of old rules that are out of print (sadly the download does not work anymore)
- a free fluff introduction on all the factions

http://web.archive.org/web/20081024194316/http://www.games-workshop.de/warhammer40000/index.shtm

I fondly remember that they had pages upon pages of fluff regarding the battle for Armageddon! And it was good fluff, like the interactions between the Jopal Indentured vs. the DKoK in a time where neither had any models and it was all about joining a narrative where you the player could draw out your own chunk in this vast universe.

I leave it to you to come to your own conclusions.

Wait, is the tagline for 40k in German 'there is no peace' instead of 'there is only war'? What a weird change!

Yes, GamesWorkshop.com is archived. If you click on "8 captures" at top-left you can change the date you're looking at.

You sure? The 10th ed starter set has "no peace" on the box cover.

Either way, it's not like it's much of a change. No peace and only war are functionally equivalent if you look at war and peace as a dichotomy. I suspect it was done for stylistic reasons, to give the tagline a nice flow.

Thanks!

So it looks like the 'no peace' version gives you a bit more alliteration with a final F, so I can see a translator going with that. Sometimes you just have to say 'no one would say this, but this interpretation is good enough'.

no peace and only war give a different vibe as well, at least for the older ones as a war does not necessary mean hot conflict, like the Cold War still being a war but relative peace, while no peace implies that there is battle

Guess in retrospect it works out well going for the peaceless version, what with there being an actual Krieg faction now. Otherwise the tagline would imply that everyone is playing Imperial Guard!

When I hear the word war I think of WW2 or Vietnam before I would imagine something like the Cold War.
No peace could mean the kids next door won't turn down their music, In the grim darkness of the far future there is only bad neighbours.

see, in countries that had a land border to the WP cold war is closer to memory than WW2 or wars that were somewhere else
and the kids not turning down their music is a Ruhestörung, no connection to no peace

New tagline should read
"In the grim darkness of the far future, there is no peace, it is however not all out war everywhere, more ike like low intensity conflict and a perpetual war industry most of the time that give the general feeling of never ending warfare, despite huge part of the galaxy in fact not beeing involved in actual armed conflict and even enjoy the illusion of relative peace"

That feels a bit wordy for a tagline.

I like it, it has a Dr Strangelove vibe, oops speaking of the Cold War.

In regards to the new WarCom, I feel the same as others in that it looks like newspaper website, very plain and boring but functional (mostly). Just a big meh overall.

You know, I've been trying to figure out what has been bothering me the most about this redo. At first I thought it was just the fact that the text boxes are narrower, as if they just assumed I'd be reading on some super narrow screen instead of a computer. After a few days I've realized though that its also the fact that for some reason they also have all of the text on the left of the screen leaving the entire right half just a sea of white. Like at least centering the text would help a little bit.

I could be crazy but I'm at least pretty sure the old site the text was at least centered somewhat and had less dead space.
