The film features the IJN cruiser Takao with the explanation that it was returned to Japan so they could defend themselves from Godzilla.
But most of Minus One's plot takes place in 1947.
Takao was sunk as a target ship in 1946.
But the movie kind of low key takes place in an altered history and explains certain things with a hand wave that tensions between the US and USSR are high.

I believe it is being re-released in a black and white version? That certainly seemed to be the adverts here in the UK.
The rerelease trailer would lead me to believe it's the color version:

Interesting - I know they have done a Godzilla set for the Universus card game, as some friends of mine were playing it last weekend.

They also made a set of Godzilla cards for Magic the Gathering.
