Cannot even claim to be a lurker because the last time I signed in was 25th of December of 2019 (the attachments tab says "only attach images related to wargaming", so you'll have to take my word about the dates). So yes, almost five years ago to the day, just a month out. Sad I know.

I am not quite ready to play games again yet; that is the reason I am here. Mainly looking for advice at this stage. I supposed the introductory section is the place to have people direct me to the correct places. I remember when I was playing ten years ago, my favourite army being Space Wolves but I also have regular Space Marines, Deathwatch, Chaos Space Marines, Harlequins, plus a few bits for Dark Angels and Deathguard. However, these days I find myself wanting to make a Space Marines chapter that based around the Arachnarok from Age of Sigmar (somebody already made Desert Space Wolves, which put me off of that idea).

I have a cupboard filled to the brim with unopened boxes of official Warhammer 40,000 scenery and terrain items (all of my scenery/terrain is made by Games Workshop / Warhammer), which I was too afraid to paint, so it has been accumulating in value because it has not been used. Judging by eBay prices, the boxes I have are together now worth several thousands of £s (Relicos Militarum appears to be the single most expensive box I own). To give you an idea, I would estimate that I own enough official Games Workshop product to make at least two, perhaps three, unique game boards of a decent size. I feel like I'd need to hire a Warhammer 40,000 consultant to help me plan gameboards because of just how much scenery/terrain I own (I do have friends who enjoy playing but unclear if they are of the mind to write narrative campaigns and only want to play causally, not competitively). I assume there must be such people out there, but I don't know where to look.

Question #1:
I noticed the scenery/terrain list on Warhammer 40,000 Lexicanum website I found is rather incomplete, since I own Games Workshop products that are not listed on there (e.g. the Citadel Razor Wire and the Mines, Bombs & Booby Traps set). Is there a place (perhaps on this website) where I can find a more complete list of official Games Workshop scenery that has been released in years past?

Question #2:
Some of my scenery is not found in the Planetary Onslaught rule book that I own. What is the best section of this website to get advice on obtaining updated scenery rules (thinking "40K General Discussion")? I know things will get updated for balancing reasons and some of my scenery is also missing rules pamphlets.

e.g. since apart from the second Firstorm Redoubt, I own everything individually for make the Tempestus Firebase, where there any specific rules that came with that box that would make it worth me buying a second Firstorm Redoubt?

P.S. I noticed the Store Locator Map is out of date for my area because one of the shops no longer sells Games Workshop products and the other store no longer exists.

Put everything you could possibly want to play with in a pile... then figure out what you would need to be happy... and write that down too.

Then sell the other stuff, until you have enough money to finish the army you've always wanted.

A few thoughts

1) Welcome to being active

2) Ebay is "ok" for secondhand sales now but be careful. When searching look for sold/completed listings not new prices. There are a load of ebay stores that have things up at stupidly high prices that no one ever buys them at.
Also be aware that since ebay went into more and more fees (though have started dropping loads recently); a LOT of gamer trading went onto Facebook where people could list for free in trading groups and the only charge is the "goods and services 3%" on Paypal (and if anyone ever says not to do it its a near 100% sign its a scam).

Keep that all in mind when pricing stuff up

3) Selling old stuff can be very good for clearing out space both physically and mentally; however as you've seen, once sold stuff often only goes up in value so you want to be careful that whatever you sell

a) Is something you REALLY do want to sell.

b) That you have an immediate plan of what to put the money into once you sell it. This is basically ensuring that the money goes directly into something positive for you so that the whole sale has a positive connection.
If the money just goes into your bank account there's a good chance it gets spent on general living costs. Which is not bad, but it can often taint the impression of the action and make you regret the sale later*

4) For terrain sale isn't the only option. Clubs and game groups often lack good terrain supplies. Do look around and see if there are active groups you can join where you might either donate the terrain to the club sets; or let them use it whilst you're a member**
Or heck if there aren't you could always use it to help you start your own club.

5) Whenever I've sold hobby stuff I generally put it to one side for a good while in a "I'm selling this" pile and sit on it for a while. This really helps come to terms with the sale and makes sure that you are selling stuff you want to sell. Again this is all about helping to avoid regrets later*

*note these points assume that you are not financially pressured and that this is all hobby money being talked about. If you're under financial pressure that changes priorities considerably.

** UV/Unique markings on the terrain help a lot in making sure if you leave and want to take it with you; that you can easily and quickly identify what is and isn't yours.

Overread, you raise some very interesting thoughts. While there is technically a group where people may play tabletop games in my town (as well as the local Warhammer shop actually), the tabletop gaming group is both not very central (I rely on public transport) and is also not specific to Games Workshop products, since I must confess, the only tabletop game I play is Warhammer 40,000.The local Warhammer store, whilst it is central, I seem to remember is quite restrictive on game length when booking gameboards and additionally is usually not open when people would want to play games (evenings and on a Sunday).

Luckily, I am in a very good position to set up my own group for Warhammer 40,000. In addition to knowing a local café owner who is very open to having this sort of thing in his café, I happen to run the local Discord group for Pokémon GO and it has many hundreds of members, of whom several have either expressed an interest in playing Warhammer 40,000 for the first time, want to get back into playing the game, or who play the game currently.

In addition to my six Realm of Battle gameboard tiles, that Games Workshop made, I have a couple of friends who have enough scenery to make their own gameboards. One of them, owns all six of the Cities of Death gameboard tiles that Games Workshop made (albethem unpainted), plus a couple of copies of the old buildings bundle Games Workshop made for Cities of Death. My other other friend was telling me he built an entire Ork village as one gameboard for Warhammer 40,000.

Plus, I could definitely see investing any profits made from running a Warhammer 40,000 playing group into purchasing new scenery for people to use, as I'd want the focus to be on the Games Workshop games as I have no interest in playing anything else at this time (I may be tempted to try Age of Sigmar once my Warhammer 40,000 collection is in order). I could also see purchasing some decent looking objects for use as scenery for not too much money from the aquarium supplies shop near my house, as for as much as I want to keep my terrain/scenery collection 100% Games Workshop products, they are sorely lacking in the vegetation department, e.g., if I wanted to create certain types of alien world (and they do make gameboard tiles like they used to). People tell me Hobbycraft is a bit pricey but my town also has one of those, so I can see looking there too.

I'll keep in mind to look at Facebook for scenery in the future, as I never thought to look at Facebook. I have not posted on Facebook in many years but have an account. Many thanks for your advice; I may make a post for directions on setting up a Warhammer 40,000 game group and I'll also be asking my local Warhammer store manager to see if there is any official support available for such an endeavor, when I am feel ready to take that leap (painting and assembling all of my scenery is long to take a really long time, I am sure of it, even with help).
